If you look at Hocus Pocus, the Quickchange guy (sorry, can't remember his name) has a nice quick change vest three or four times. I was wondering if anyone knew of a Christian style outfit where you could do a gospel story of sin with black or red and then go to white and then maybe of the cross or something. Any ideas? Thanks.

The "Colour Change Waistcoat," aka "Color Change Vest" in the U.S. , is by Lee Alex. It can also be purchased at his site - http://www.magicwaistcoat.com/
Your idea sounds good. I wouldn't use black OR red for sin. I'd start with black (sin), change to red (the blood of Jesus), and then white (as snow). I've heard of several people who do a Cinderella-themed effect of "rags to riches." That would also fit nicely with a Christian message.

Thanks Magis6, I went ahead and emailed him with the idea to see how much it would cost for the other colors.

Lee,
I just found this thread and checked the video... looks great! I work primarily with youth groups in classroom settings, wearing coat and tie. I'm typically about 4 to 5 feet away from the closest students. The chairs often extend far to my right and left, so the angles can be tricky. I've never done a costume change of any kind, but I'm very interested in this one. Would it be effective in these circumstances? I appreciate any feedback you can give me. Thanks, Rick |

Thank you for your post Rick.
I was going to PM you with a reply, but felt that others might benefit from the information too. The vest/waistcoat may be used close-up, but it is recommended that you wear a jacket in these circumstances. The jacket - always worn OPEN to display the vest of course - is enough cover to hide angles left and right. If you have seen the video demonstration, then any of the methods shown there wearing a jacket can be done no problem in the situation that you describe. The umbrella also for example can be done with a jacket, and the umbrella itself provides enough angle cover to prevent the quick change being revealed. One of the simplest methods is the removal of an object from the inner pocket of the jacket - a white silk in the video demo. You are covered as you turn, and angles are also hidden. Please note that a white silk has been removed and the white vest is displayed. You would not for example have the red vest change to white, at the same time remove a red silk from your jacket. This would simply look like the vest was covered by the red silk in the first place. The consequent color change to blue would be accompanied by a blue silk from the pocket etc. Covering your waistcoat by removing your jacket is also one of the most hidden, yet fastest changes. This is also shown on the demo video. This is impossible to detect from any angle, and the waistcoat is shown right up to the split second that the change takes place. There are no less than eleven routines and ideas for presentation described in the eight page booklet that accompanies the vest/waistcoat. |

Lee, thanks for all the info. It sounds like it could be just what I need. Just a couple more questions. Can this be worn and performed at the end of my class (probably 45 min.). Would it be overly restrictive during this time? Lastly, can you tell me how difficult (on a 1 to 10) it is to perform?
Again, thanks for your reply and hope to hear more. Rick |

Rick,
The vest/waistcoat can be worn without any difficulty for as long as you wish. This does not spoil the set-up (there is no real set-up!), and it does not restrict your movements. You can perform the rest of your show without having to worry about the quick change until it is time to perform. As far as performance is concerned, on a one to ten (ten being really impossibly difficult!), myself I would say ONE, however you need to put in the normal amount of time and practice that you would expect to with any other effect. Even if I say it myself, this item deserves the investment in time to get it right. |
