Not much consensus as the results show. However, if you ask a computer scientist he is more than likely pick a number which is a power of 2, mostly 64. Chess players also select 64 (number of squares on chessboard). If you know that he has read Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, then of course the answer to life, the universe and everything will be 42.
In the above cases, the key is asking "pick your *favorite* number", and not "pick any number"... |

Then there is 42, and 52 is nice in the evenings. I enjoy 21 during the weekends. Gosh so many choices it's hard to choose!
