This seemed like the most appropriate forum for my question. For about two weeks now, I've been working on a big show for Halloween. I have been booked to do what may not be a unique event, but is unique where I'll be performing. It is a "whodunnit" revolving around the theme of a cursed dagger. I already have a couple magical routines interspersed throught the event. I want to keep the audience guessing until the very end as to who had possession of this dagger and killed someone. I guess I'm looking for some bizarre type magic to incorporate into this event. Any ideas? I'm already doing Ashes on the Arm to reveal the guilty party, and a simple vanishing box to show the dagger has been taken. I'd like to keep the routines fairly short so the storyline will continue to flow easily. Age group for this event is 15 and older.

Tony Andruzzi had a dagger that would turn on the table top, though I am not sure he had it set to actually control it, using his set up it would not be too hard to modify it for a forced outcome, It was in Daemon's Diary if I recall correctly.

Very Nice Idea Curator. I liked that one.
Margerette - Maybe do the old timeless mentalism with the ten cards which in turn will give a clue as to the killer. Regards Wolflock

"Mystery Woman" in The Wizards' Journal #4 has a nice way to use the dagger as an Athame and use it to reveal a person's zodiac sign.
A bulb from a "plate lifter" filled with ketchup or stage blood can make the knife drip red with blood at an appropriate moment in your revelations.

Mount the dagger in a block of wood and do a roulette routine.
Demonstrate that it is crused by having a spectator choose an egg at random, then rub that egg on the crused blade, the contents of the egg when cracked are bloody. Wrap the dagger in a piece of parchment, crush it to vanish ALA PL wand vanish. Dagger through coat Place it point down in your palm and have it balance standing upright there. Put a bracelet on the dagger, have it penetrate same, or perhaps hold dagger upright and have bracelet levitate up the shaft of the dagger, ala the coin up wand. All of these, of course, must be accompanied by suitable story.

How about:
Use A/B blood (also known as "Magic Blood") so that immediately after handling the dagger, which can be seen to be "clean", suddenly, your palm is red with blood. Or, have the "killer", if a person, in on the act, and after revealing him to be the guilty party by way of your ash reveal, have him come forth and hold the dagger, and have his hand turn red when touching the dagger - as bloody confirmation from beyond. Kind of like "In Lizzie's Hand" or "Dear Boss" or whatever those effects were called, but slightly different. (Or you could do something like those effects - PM me if unfamiliar with them) (In case you're not familiar with A/B blood, it's a mix of two separate clear solutions - it doesn't take much, and the object doesn't need to be dripping with it. Have one solution smeared on the dagger, where it will be unseen, and the other solution dabbed on your palm. When your palm touches the dagger and the solutions combine, it will turn red and look very bloody.)
Just hanging out with the rest of my fellow dregs.
