Thanks Dave for clarifying this better then I could. We basically are saying the same thing, but you said it much better. Thanks my friend. I do think you can see it more clearly what Dave is talking about by looking at the photo of the legs I took on page 1 of this post. Thanks again Dave for helping with this.

Whilst these sorts of backdrops are acceptable for smaller home parties, if you a serious about having a slick professional backdrop you can't go past the SpiderFlex.
Obviously, the spiderflex is too big for houses but I can't imagine setting up the jet set in a shopping centre of theatre. |

Dave,
If that is the case, then todd75 and Kyle got jipped. It would seem our legs dangle fre until the weight of the Jet Set holds them extended on the ground. Pick up the Jet Set to move it, and the legs will once again fall free and dangle. This does not correspond to the instructions sent with each Jet Set. They should lock into place, which them clearly do not. -Tod

Tod, did you buy them from Abbott's? If you did, I would contact them about this. The legs are absolutely supposed to snap into place. The weight of the uprights is not supposed to hold them.
Kyle, we can't be saying the same thing if your jet set legs don't snap into place and mine do. Are you guys sure you are pulling the legs up as far as they can go? They should snap into place. At first, they are tight but loosen up just a bit with use.

Dave,
Yep, purchased from Abbott's. I bet the next one I get will have the same problem, however. As you've read above, this must be a manufacturing problem. Wanna swap

Tod,
I am not sure what problems you are experiencing. I like my Jet Set from Abbott's. My 8'X8' sets up in about 2 minutes. The 'feet' snap into place. I drape the 'pillow' like material and then I cover the black portion with a colorful, lightweight mesh material. It is used mainly for in-home performances and provides a small 'cabaret' style atmosphere. It hangs very nicely and doesn't look like an old wrinkled blanket. I have even used it outside when there is no wind. Highly recommended. |

Dave and everyone,
I would like to apologize here. Actually I got my set back out again when I did the New years Eve event. They do indeed snap into place. I just never realized or had forgotten that they did. It must be my old age. hehe But yes, they do snap into place when you push them up and they lock into that open position. Sorry for the confusion there. I was thinking of my other backdrop system. Tod, looks like you have the only ones that don't snap into place. I think based on what Kyle just posted, you haven't pulled the legs up far enough. Don't be afraid to push them into the holders. They'll go in, just need a little persuassion at first.

Exactly as Dave just said. I just plainly forgot that my jetset legs do indeed snap into place. I just have not used it in a while and was thinking of my other backdrop system. They do snap into place but what you have to do is extend them up and them sort of push them up a bit farther. you will feel resistance and then it will snap right into place keeping them there. It works out quite nicely. Thanks Dave for clearing that up for me. sorry for the confusion I may have caused. hehe

Yeah you may want to do that. Maybe you got a model that was not working correctly as it should. The legs do lock into place when you open them up. You just have to push them upwards and then you will feel the resistsnace. You push a bit more and they snap into a locked position.

I talked to Abbott's. They say the jet sets are all made correctly and there are no manufacturing defects. Tod, at the bottom of the jet set where the legs are hinged, there should be a 3 pronged star like piece that he legs rise up to. These prongs should look like a tube cut in half length wise. The legs should fit into these tubes flush. To make that happen, you have to apply pressure to the legs in an upward motion which will cause the leg to snap into this holder.
If you look at Kyle's picture on the first page of this thread, you'll see this pronged piece just above the legs. You have to really pull the legs into this at first. The are tight.

Dave,
I believe Abbott's is misinformed on "all" of them being made correctly ;-) Yes, the bottom looks like a star, and yes the prongs are half-tubes. Butno, in the case of my purchase, ONLY one of these legs "snaps" and holds in place. The other legs just fall back down as soon as I let go. This after repeatedly pushing them up into the half-tubes.
