First I would like to thank all the posters here in “The Little Darlings” section. I have come away with a lot of great ideas solely because of you, and my show is better because of it. When I say “all the posters”, I do mean it.
I would like to state, if I disagree with an idea of yours, it is just that, a disagreement over an idea. It does not mean I am right, and it does not mean I think you are a poor magician or a person. I personally think that the posters here are all generally good entertainers, with a large number that seem to be fantastic - and are willing to share their wealth of experience! I come from a philosophy background where ideas are debated all the time, and it is not personal, it is how the best ideas rise to the top. I try never to be personal, except in a positive way unless someone appears to be to be bullying, or overly smug. I do have an issue with both of these. Perhaps I shouldn’t, and should bite my key board. Anyway, if I have come off as smug or elitist, I am sorry. I do not feel that I am better - I feel I am around my peers where I can speak openly. I do have a big ego, as do most of us, but like most, I don’t need to step on others to build it up. It is already “built up”. I have gotten good advice and ideas from all of you. Some are more experienced, some less, but all have much to offer and I soak it all up. I hope I have been able to offer something too. It has been brought up that I think I am intelligent because my wife is an attorney. You can rest assured that I would think I was intelligent if I were single! *G* - ask Skip -. But that does not take away from the other posters intelligence. There is a lot of intelligence here, and I am grateful. As I said before, I feel like I am with my peers. I do however have a better grasp of the legal side of things than most since that is my life too, outside of entertainment. Believe me, while there are many very smart attorneys, and I have never met one I would label “stupid”, being an attorney is not synonymous with being intelligent. If you happen to be an attorney, I am sure you can agree. Being the husband or wife of an attorney does not mean one is intelligent either, and in my case, it may mean my wife made a bad choice.*G* It does mean there is a better chance they understand some legal issues compared to a complete “lay person”. Just like the public may think everything is done with “a magnet planted in my head and a wooden leg” as one poster says, the public in general has very bad ideas of what is legal and what isn’t. Anyway, if I have unintentionally offended you, I am sorry. I think the world of the posters here and I am a better entertainer because of you. Enough rambling. |

Gee, Cap'n, I don't think you come off any more smug and elitist here than you do in person. Um...let me rephrase that. Whomever you offended was probably looking to be offended. Heck, I offend the wee-brained, my-way-or-the-highway types without even trying half the time! Fuhgeddaboudit! I was never going to fit into their precious peer group anyway! Until Tim hit the neighborhood, I thought you were the most talented and business-oriented performer in the Triangle...and compared to Tim, #2 ain't bad.
Here's to annoying the wee-minded gits who can't see past the ends of their noses! Skip

Cap'n I am not sure who you upset here to have to appoligize but I will say you are ONE of the people here that I am sure to listen to when they have something to say. Your Posts are always filled with knowledge and I have learned a lot from reading them. Keep them coming as you did in the past and don't hold back.

Just remember, the only reason there are disagreements is because you all don't agree with me.

Thanks guys, I just do not want to come off as a know it all. I don't know nearly enough. I do like getting into the discussions because it makes me think, and makes me a better performer.
Skip, those are very kind words, but undeserved. The Triangle is rich with talent (so anyone thinking of moving here - DON'T! We have plenty of talent! *G*), and we are all different. I really feel uncomfortable saying anyone is/was the best, since we are so different it is too much like comparing apples and oranges. When asked by clients, I always emphasis our (Triangle Magicians) difference. When I refer someone to you I KNOW you will do a great job. I have not heard ANY complaints about quality, timeliness, or hmmm, age/location appropriate behavior, or questionable statements you have said. I cannot say that about everyone, which is why I do not refer some other talented entertainers. Since at one time I did hand out a lot of gigs, I did get an "ear-full" from clients. On the few occasions you did pull a gig for me, you ALWAYS got great reviews - and I always asked the clients. To be honest, talent-wise, you were the only one my clients asked for when I was unavailable. I worried about taking some of my business, but I knew you were too standup a guy for that. Thank you. At one time I was the busiest, but that does not mean the best or #2, #3 or #4 . .. (no matter what my advertising may imply), don't let me pull the wool over your eyes. Jeff seems to have the business end locked up with his backdrops and magic kits - and Paul is no slouch either. Both of them have the business end far beyond mine, for now *G*, but I am learning. You have always been very busy, with entertainment endeavors, I just did not see you chase the dollar. As for Tim, I don't know him yet, but if you say he is very good, I believe you. When I first met you years ago you did a great job, and I considered you part of the best in Raleigh entertainment. Unfortunately I had paired up with another magician and he got first shot at my overflow. He flew off to Vegas without so much as a thank you. Hindsight, that was a mistake. Your posts here all show the wisdom of an experienced, quality entertainer. As I told Al, the only thing I hold against you is your location. I would much prefer you not to be competition. Ok, lot's of love-fest for ya Skip, don't expect me to repeat it again! I will use this quote on my web site: See what the competition says: Quote: *L* Naw, just joshin'.I thought you were the most talented and business-oriented performer in the Triangle... |

CaptainKid - you have nothing to apologize for (that I know of), so get that idea out of your head. It's hard to bite your tounge when you see a post you consider to be wrong or improper - and there is no reason you should, and there is no need to apologize for stating your mind. If this was a big happy hug-club with everyone patting each other on the back saying "atta boy" I doubt that any of us would spend as much time here as we do. We are all able to vent our ideas and feelings here (more or less), and that shouldn't stop. Now enuff with the apologies and let's all get ready for talk like a pirate day on sept 19th!
