I am delighted to assert I've stumbled upon a piece of magic on the internet. Look out for the coin gimmick messing with the mind of the doorman.

I don't remember noticing as a kid but that guy who comes out the hole in the ground is a slightly taller version of the man who 'rings the bell' (pulls the tail of a bird) to note the end of work for Fred Flintstone in the title sequence.

I remember Top Cat very well from the 60's. Yes, Slim King he was "Cool". I wouldn't be surprised if he was the inspiration surrounding Harry Anderson's magician character.

To be a complete toongeek, John, I believe Top Cat was based on the Sgt. Bilko character that Phil Silvers created in the early 50s TV comedy. (Like the Flintstones was a rip-off of the Honeymooners.) Most of Top Cats feline posse were actually voiced by Sgt. Bilko's cast of character actors.
But it's quite possible that Harry Anderson based his character on Phil Silvers genial conman character (and several other carny- and burlesque-trained TV pitchmen in the 50s.) It's the classic, fast-talking street hustler selling 2¢ potato peekers for 75¢ that you still saw back in the 50s when Harry (and I) were growing up. |

Ok, nice but I can´t see the connection to the topic title "YouTube 60s Mentalism Clip". Where is the mentalism?

Quite right St. Dave. Quite right.
I discovered further mentalism secrets hidden in the depths of this daft old nugget. Watch out for a first-rate variation of the "invisible deal". MAKE MENTALISM GREEN. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUCMgLaDksU
