Typos! Oh no! Shoot me! LOL
Our friends don't have to agree with me about everything and some that I hold very dear don't have to agree about anything, except where we are going to meet them for dinner.

We are the common posters in both threads, so who do you have a problem with, and what exactly is the issue? It is clear by your posting that one exists and that it must be one of us. On the Houdini issue: One thread you can look at is here: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......art=0#22 It has been talked about for almost 100 years on how Houdini treated those who performed magic in areas he was going to perform in. It is in most of the biographies, anyone who reads magic history has come across these stories. Read the books on Houdini, Thurston, and Blackstone. On second thought, you seem like a well meaning person who looks up to Houdini as a role model. My advice, don't read anything on him other than Milborn Christopher's book, Kenneth Silverman's book, or William Gresham's book. This way you will not run into anything that might threaten your idealism. (By the way, your comments took my statements out of context. I think he was more of an egomaniac than a "hate filled maniacal Houdini" but I won't argue with you.) Tony |

I would think you would be more successful if you lost your elitism
your quote "We are the elite of the magic society" Get over your self your not the elite- that's like saying Hip Hop is the elite of music (which it isn't) The elite comes from the individual---with all the greats you mentioned- there were probably hundreds that were not so great in the mentalist field. Sebastian Black is correct it is funny how we are talking about mentalists and then the topic turns to Houdini the escape artist-----ummmmm what has he got to do with mentalism??? actually my point is it is the individual in the fields. Now with regards to the past greats--- were their corporate events back then- to the degree of now---? Most greats I would say today are unheard of because they work a market that doesn't give them the fame of the past---but they get the fortune. I'd like to see how Annemann and Corinda, houdini, Cardini would go up against star wars or indiana jones or whatever great movie is out there like the lord of the rings or titanic. Now I'm not saying they were great- but back then they didn't have Movies to the point we have and they certainly didn't have Videos or DVD's - they really didn't have much to watch back then---now there is lot of competition and you have to be extra good to survive. I would say - stop your hissy fit and make your show the best and maby if you lose the elitism you may be the next great. |

Tony,
I do not have a problem with any one you have mentioned, that I know of, but you do seem to have a problem with what I have posted. This is a thread that is open to all, and if this was meant to be a privet conversation between Slim, Jim, Chichi, Scott, and you. It should not have been posted in a forum of this kind. I do have some concern about some of the hate, directed toward the people, the successful magicians pointed out in this thread. You on the other hand, have singled me out, because I disagree with you and have stated my opinions. Did I strike a cord or a nerve? Do you feel like a fraud, and you think I was referring to you. One should not get so paranoid and defensive when other make general statements on these threads. There are as many different opinions at the Café as there are people and we don’t have to agree to join in. I asked a genuine and sincere question about the reference material you used to make statements about a magician, that can not rise to defend himself, and you only give me links to other threads about him. Threads where people posting are alive now and could not possibly been living at the same time Houdini did. So anything posted on these threads have to be opinions based on things written by his contemporaries or historians. But not in any of the three books by Christopher, Silverman or Gresham. So I ask again what books or documents could I find the information you base your perspective of Houdini on. I would just like to read this information for myself , instead of taking some ones word, that seems to have a great deal of contempt and hostility for the man. Best wishes and good magic to all, Tom Bartlett
