Get annemann's book, "202 Methods of Forcing" I believe it's called. EXCELLENT material in there.
Coming soon... Who knows!

With respect, Schada, Anneman's book is a little out of date. Lewis Jones's 'Encyclopedia of Impromptu Card Forces' is far better, more comprehensive and a lot more relevant to the contemporary performer. And given that a force using 'regular' cards can be adapted to a packet of cards bearing numbers, letters, places, names, objects... whatever... the book has countless applications to mentalism.
To answer the OP, my favourites are the only two forces I know of which the spec can perform on himself with the cards in his own hands, the Christ force and the Matsuyama force.

Honestly, my favorite force is "In Search of the Unknown Force" from my book NUMBER ... PLEASE? It's also my favorite effect. I do it one on one, on stage for many, or on the phone. It plays that strongly. The book is only $25 + p/h. E-mail me for more info.

Although not a force in the classic sense, but a way of determining a number someone is thinking of, I love "Reversal" - Its utterly convincing if done correctly.
I would have to agree with Richard as far as a numeric force is concerned - you can't really do better than "In Search of the Unknown Force". You do have to be careful with the above - if you aren't it will appear to be just what they are. Richard explains both (and more) the above with all the details required to not only do the force but ensure its not seen as a math trick. I can't really describe one of my favourite card force, I don't know the name of it and it was something I learnt a long time ago, without giving away the method but needless to say, its simple and does the job 100% of the time. Basically it appears as though you are cutting the deck and the card where you cut is taken - no funny business re-arranging the deck. Participant can do it themselves providing you haven't got an awkward one who feels they must take a look at everything. Regards, Kris Sheglova
The above is all rubbish, except that which you chose to believe

Some of Matt Shulien's forces, in the right context, are extremely useful when performing mentalism with cards...

For me it's psychological forces everytime.I will use language and gesture to force anything and everything. This is simply because I like the danger. I never use cards because I don't like the impression of being a magician that cards give but my techniques are my own augmentations of existing material from magic literature. Any books on suggestion, NLP and statistical psychology will help. 'Influence' by R. Cialdini makes for enlightening reading as does 'The Silent Language by Edward Hall. Luke Jermays '7 Deceptions' has some interesting newish ideas on older methods and Banacheks'Psychological Subtelties' is a good start but the material has largely been done to death. Modern mentalism should be superceding the classics as more of us explore the psychology behind communication. But not to make lihght of the subject as this is an infinite study for the human mind is not a static thing to be observed like an ancient fossil but an ever evolving work of art. In my studies I have found that the knowledge I've aquired on the subject is accumulative and has unconsciously integrated with my everyday behaviour. This makes my work as a mentalist easier as the hit rates are higher. Though dangerous, with initial investment of effort eventually things seem to work more consistently. Practice makes permanent.
