Three by Bruce Bernstein - Review

Bought mine from : Bruce
See here : email : brucembernstein@sbcglobal.net

Price : About $25 I think …

Difficulty : The difficulty of the routines is medium. Time and effort will get you there. The difficulty of the text is as open as your mind.

They Say :
In these pages you’ll find mentalism that strives to be entertaining, deceptive, practical and above all commercial. In particular, remote driving and Eat at Joe's are perfect for corporate shows. They are easily adapted to take advantage of slogans/metaphors that can help "sell" your services to companies and organizations that demand a customized touch. But they are just as useful to those who work private shows for clients that want "little something extra".
This is not a book suitable for beginners. To understand it fully, one must have a good working knowledge of the classics of Mentalism. But for those who do, this book contains ideas that will inspire and stimulate your own work.
25 pages, saddle bound

I Say :
What you get is a nice A4, staple bound, professionally printed and presented, soft cover, 25 page book.
Bruce Bernstein is one of those unsung heroes of mentalism. He’s done it all, does it well, but is perhaps not the biggest name out there. However, what he does and what he writes is unique and special.
Three contains, three effects. Each effect is superbly explained and expanded upon. Every description contains the effect as seen by the spectator, followed by a detailed breakdown of the method.

So, the book contains …

Remote Driving.
Five envelopes are placed on Display… you are taken on a car journey, and by a subtle process of elimination, the final envelope predicts your destination.
A lovely effect that uses a method with many applications.

Eat At Joe’s.
A classic. Nine envelopes, nine members of the audience. Cards are switched on the say so of audience members, and when finally revealed, spell, Eat At Joe’s.
The principle could be applied to other words too, which could work really well for a birthday name for example.

The Force of Psychology.
This uses a Plastic Bag and slips of paper to predict items amongst audience members. Again, the method is simple and effective, though for whatever reason, my personal least favourite of the three.

Overall :

A superb book for the mentalist. At all levels, those who are serious about making things better, more real, more entertaining, will love this book. It’s a satisfying and practical read, and the methods can be refined and applied again, as per one’s taste and imagination.

Rating : 9/10. A lovely Mentalism book.

Thank you for the review - I like that the effects include concepts that have many applications. Eat at Joe's sounds particularly interesting.

Did you get your copy at a lecture or did Mr. Bernstein send one to you?

I also like the premise of Eat At Joe's as explained. The method sounds like it is accomplished using a Paul Curry idea. Curry had playing cards turn up in Ace through ten order. If this is not Bruce's method, it would seem to be an appropriate way to do this idea too.

Bruce has a lot of creative plots.
