Ever since I built my doves an aviary it seems I've had parasites problems, first lices, now I’ve seen from time to time I think its a "flat fly" or a "Pigeon Louse Fly, I think wild doves around the aviary might be a big part of the problem- the floor wire is a bit lifted of the ground so the wild doves get underneath there as well as on top of the cage- I'm planning on putting wire all around the outside of the bottom of the cage (like all the way to the floor). Has anyone had any problems with Wild doves ? How can I prevent them from getting close to my magic doves?

Jarana/Jaime - AHHHHH!! - You are truly a Dove magician! *smile*
Wild Doves are hard to keep away. The reason they are there is because its free food for them. They like the scattered seeds, and see some new possible friends around. *smile* There is not much you can do on that end, but in order to keep them away from your birds is to build a solid roof on your avairy. What this will do is keep droppings from the wild doves from entering your doves home (or at least reduce it drastically). My avaiary has a solid roof that over hangs the front and back. What this does is if the wild doves want to perch on the house, they will do so on the edge, and when they release droppings, they go to the ground instead of inside. You want to make sure though that your doves get sunlight, but they will go to the edge and bathe in the sun. Building it off the ground high enough also keeps the ground walking wild doves from getting into the cage, and all the ground critters too. Make sure there are no places on the lower edge of your avairy to allow the wild doves to perch. That is about all you can do in my eyes. I'm sure htat someone else may have some other ideas. - My Dove house is roughly a huge square with an overlapping roof ( and wheels on the bottom for transport/moving). Been very good to me. |

Thanks Alpha, - I will cover up the entire roof - and put wire all around the unwired bottom part the raised floor.(the part between the cage and the floor)
Dave - my order arrived yesterday- when I got home back from work the box was in front of my door, work has been overwhelming this week and although I have not seen this “Fly “ again - I'm setting up time on Friday or the weekend to do this - plus it will give me time to read the instructions. When I called to place the order the guy recommended the Permithrin instead – so order that one.
