But it's a bad idea since it breathes new life into an old, buried post. now everyone is checking it out because it is now "new."

What I want to know is: is the version we all saw on tv the same methodology and performance used on his tour?
Someone here said that he was used as a "stooge", but the method used on tv does not require any stooges. (except the boy who travels to Hawii with him ofcourse)

I will not comment on whether this illusion requires a stooge in this instance, but my daughter has performed twice with David as a selected audience member. Not pre-selected by Copperfirld, but positioned by me to be selected. Reverse stooging LOL!!!
He is very good at prompting and cuing his volunteers, to the point that some folks think they are stooges, preselected, and scripted in advance etc. The question would be could this illusion be done with someone in this manner? (From memory I believe this illusion can.) B

Back before I knew his methodology I came up with 4 ways of doing the illusion, and as far as I know, Copperfield uses the most expencive one.
Yes it can be done with or without stooges, but I would like to know what people thought who saw the illusion live, particularly if they were selected. (did he select the people at random like in the tv performance?)

You might never know, unless from an insider. Which is unlikely.

The only part of Portal I really like is the vanish. The illusion as a whole to me suffers from the Too Perfect Theory. Another magician and I have disected this and I really believe we've solved it.
On David using stooges, I can say that he doesn't for everything, as I was chosen for 13 a few years ago. As I was walking onstage, I was asked if I was a magician and without thinking, I said yes. As I walked onstage, David came over grabbed my arm and "Step over here sir." I only got to watch from the sidelines. I can tell you that while he was polite, you really get the feeling that you will do exactly what he wants you to do. |

To be fair to him, he probably wouldn't want Magicians in the illusion. What I want to know is, did you see anything from the sidelines?
I still don't know how the 13 escaped from the box in time, considering the box was raised about 12" off the ground the whole time and -atleast according to the tv cameras- we could see all the way through. Too Perfect Theory in my opinion only applies if you are doing mentalism, because it does not apply if people KNOW you are doing an illusion. I'd be interested to hear how you think it was done. Be interesting to see if you were correct.

I won't go into theory on revealing anything of the technical part of either the "Réunion" or "Thirteen" Illusion, neither I'm going to share my thoughts on how it could have been done.
The only thing I can tell is that I saw his latest show sitting in the forth row front stage next to the right aisle, where he went along after reappearing in the audience, coming back from the Hawaï beach. During the presentation of "Thirteen" a few technical things went unfortunatly wrong, since I saw how it worked, but I guess that the lay audience didn't recognized anything of it. Anyway, when "assisting" the Copperfield show you don't see anything from the sidelines. And from the audience view, all seats that could have a minor view into the secret are blocked by the team and not available for sale. Just my two cents. |

Incidentally, I saw him about 8 months ago. He didn't do Portal, but closed with Lottery and then 13. I really think it should be the other way around. As my friend pointed out, when you have your last impression of the show you just saw, which is more impressive, the antique auto you just produced, or 13 empty seats? |
