Not sure if this is the right place to post this subject. I am looking for information on making rip away costumes. Is there a book DVD or area which covers this subject?

Look under 'The Clothes We Wear' in the ODDS & ENDS part of the Café - many threads.
Best resources: Primarily about menswear: Quick Change by Sven Schoppenhauer, translated by Lee Alex. Lee is a member here - and very helpful. The book is invaluable. Lee also sells a quick change vest and every review I've read by the purchasers has been overwhelmingly positive. Primarily about womenswear: The Art of Costume Change DVD by Yasuda: A wonderful Japanese artist performs his show with 2 female assistants and then explains the techniques of the female costumes. I find the book and DVD complement each other, but if you only get one get the book. |

Plastic Destiny is correct. Both of those sources are excellent for what you seek.
If you are looking for ready made items for quick change then you can check out our site http://www.chameleonfabrications.com We currently have 2 shirt gimmicks, a tuxedo version and a shirt and tie version that are adjustable and very versatile. We will have more clothes coming to market hopefully in the next couple of months to compliment these as well. All the best, Rob |

I'm going to have to back Plastic Destiny on this one.
Those are two great resources. Also you may want to look at the structure of clothing start. Start at the beginning, if that makes sense. Also going to have to give a big Two Thumbs Up to Lee, I have a peice of his (color changing waist coat) and it is truely stunning. I have posted a review in the Grand Illusion section. Matt |

Rob,
I just ordered one of your chameleon change tuxedo shirts and I can't wait for it to arrive. I was curious though. I haven't seen any reviews for this product. Is this meant for experts or can someone like me (who is new to costume changes) use it effectively? Kent

You might send Rob a PM. He can certainly tell you about sizes and MIGHT be able to put you in touch with a couple of past customers who are members of the café, if any café member are past customers. That way, you might be able to get some feedback.
You never know. Mark. |

Mine is in transit throug customs as we speak. Hopefully, I'll get it today or tomorrow. Once I get mine, I'll post a review; but remember, I don't have any previous experience with costume changes. So, I won't have any benchmarks or points of reference to work with. How's that for a pre-emptive warning on the potential lack of quality in my review?!!

O.K., I received my chameleon change tuxedo shirt today and I am quite impressed by both the quality of the product and the ease of operation. The shirt is made from a high quality tuxedo shirt, with a real cumberband (?) and bow tie. Everything is one unit and designed for an immediate, quick release. The shirt is also adjustable for different body widths and heights, for a more tailored fit.
The one key feature that may be very important is that you need to wear a jacket for this effect prior to makeing the change. So, if you don't usually wear a jacket while performing, this may not be the product for you. The shirt comes with a 12 minute DVD that clearly demonstrates the performance, the design of the shirt, the set-up and the operation. The only shortcoming in the DVD was a lack of instruction on how to best hide various outfits (other than his assistant's dress) that you might want to change into. For instance, what if I wanted to change from a tuxedo shirt to a simple shirt and tie of a different color? It is also important to note that this gimmick allows for a one-time change. It is not designed as a running gag (a la color changing vest), and it does require some cover to make the change. It is also important to note that, after the change, there will be a little "clean-up" that may be necessary. For a performer who is just getting into costume changes, this product is ideal. It is not overly difficult to rehearse, learn and perform. It is a well made item that should last a long, long time; and it will allow for a quick one-time costume change that can be performed at any time during your show. Over all, this product delivers exactly what it promises to do in both the description and the video clip. It's very well made and easy to learn. So long as you wear a jacket prior to the change and so long as you have some cover at the time of the change, it should work extremely well. And considering the price, it's a very good value. Over all, I would give this product an 8 out of 10. Kent

Hi Kent,
We're glad to hear that you like the Chameleon Change Tuxedo Shirt. Pat sews all the products herself and she is very particular about her work. Both the Tuxedo and the Shirt and Tie gimmicks are designed to be versatile and easy to use. We would be happy to answer any questions you might have regarding performance ideas and we can also recommend Sven Schoppenhauer's Quick Change book for performance ideas as well. All the best and enjoy the reactions your quick change is going to get you! Rob |

Rob,
I'm really looking forward to it. I don't usually get into costume changes, but I have a corporate show booked whose central corporate theme is "Change". I'm going to use this as one of the feature effects at the beginning of the show. I'm still struggling with presentational ideas to really focus in on the change in costume but I have time to play with it and rehearse, so I'm sure I'll develop something. Thanks again! Kent

Best of luck with the show Kent. The Chameleon Change Tuxedo Shirt will certainly fit the theme. I've also PM'd you with some ideas and tips.
Hi cardfreakhk, The sizes for both the Chameleon Change Tuxedo Shirt and the Chameleon Change Shirt and Tie are adjustable. The challenge was to make an article of clothing that would fit different body shapes. First, we met this challenge by offering each style in two sizes. Next, we made every one adjustable in 3 areas, neck size, waist size and torso length. The adjustments are quick to do and are done as you are putting the gimmicks on. Therefore, the gimmicks will not only fit your individual body size, but also be able to accomodate the change you are going to make. The sizes are listed in inches and are actual measurements. Therefore to determine the size someone would need, measure the circumference of you neck and waist and convert it to inches (approximately 2.14 centimetres = 1 inch) and you will be able to see which size you need. As Kent pointed out, these gimmicks allow for anyone, regardless of experience, to be able to add a quick change to their act. If you haven't had the opportunity to do so yet, you can click on the link to find the demo video http://www.chameleonfabrications.com/ They're also available at Hocus-Pocus or Morrissey Magic. All the best, Rob |
