I have to tell you, don't ever walk to work in the rain. It's hell on your packet effects.
By way of personal anecdote, I had a little incident the other day that taught ne this valuable lesson. My reliable Crown Vic broke down, (starter) so I had it towed to the shop. Problem is, my employer doesn't give a rat's butt that I don't have a vehicle. I was expected at work at five a.m. that morning, as we had the company president on his way for a visit, and they wanted the place SPARKLING. That's my job. So I got my butt up at three in the morning, and got dressed, and took off on foot. Problem is it picked that day to rain. No prob, I was lent an umbrella by my sister. So I made the fourty minute jaunt to my plant, walking along the side of the highway. I always carry a case that has things like keys, prescriptons, checkbook, reading glasses, etc. And of course, without fail a few packet effects. By the time I got there my socks were soaked, my feet were prunes, and my case was wet, even under the umbrella's protection. Later, when I opened the case, I was dismayed to find that Gordon Bean's Entourage, Strange Travelers, Roger Lovins Playtime, and others were DROWNED. Soaked to the gills. RUINED. That's a lot of money to see washed away. It seems that the umbbrella did not offer as much protection as I had assumed. So take it from me, ol' Daf, that if you have to walk to work, or anywhere for that matter in the pouring rain, leave you packet effects at HOME!

I have had that happen when I have had a normal deck of cards in My pocket.
In a true act of stupidity I once washed a brand new deck of double facers! |

Yep...there's a lesson there! Thanks for the suggestion.
I would have thought everything would have been protected. Hmmm... Mark. |

Me too. The packet effects were in the bag in WALLETS, so there should not have been a problem.

Now you have your original "watered down" versions of those effects... ..

That's a bummer. You should know that you can make some of these tricks by purchasing a gaffed deck...Try to find Killer Packet with Simon Lovell. It should have all of the cards required to replace several of your ruined effects, plus more to make some new tricks. Let me know if you need help figuring out how to make what. Also, whenever I've worked a deck to death, and I'm about to get rid of it (about once a week), I safe the Jokers. I recommend you do the same. That way, you'll have a nice stash of Jokers for times like this. Good luck.

Daffydoug, so sorry to hear about this. What an aweful thing that you not only have to get wet in order to get to work on time and then discovered your cards are destroyed.
From now on, I am going to put them in Ziploc bags, as I do carry my card effects to work in my brief case.

Tough luck man.
it has happened to me before and all we can do is learn from it and move on. great idea that evolve629 suggested. I also use ziploc bags when I go out in messy weather for my decks or packet effects. -Matt

Anyway, the only cards I really need are the ones for The Gordon Bean effect. ( The queens that are eerily similar to twisted sisters.) The rest, (like for Strange Travelers) I can remake from supplies in my magic room. What is Killer packet? Is that a kit for making your own packet effects from scratch? I have not yet heard of it.

Dang Doug, sorry to hear of your misfortune!
Sounds like your boss needs a serious reality check on human relations and compassion! The ZipLock baggie idea is a good one, I would think it over... To add an edge of empathy for you: I've mistakenly left not one, but TWO brand new Ghost Decks in my jeans pockets only to have them washed and dryed by the wifey.... Big time bummer, no doubt. Again, sorry to hear of your loss...If you need anything, let me know. Prof. Piper (Terry)

Several years ago when I was starting in magic... I had one of those rising card decks... you know the one with the special something inside the packet of cards... well needless to say... Rising card decks don't handle the wash very well... all that was left was the lead weight... my wife was like... "what is this thing?" Doh!!

I had a similar experience. Years ago, when I was first getting into magic, I made the mistake of loaning a friend my ITR. Well, he left it pinned to his shirt when it went into the wash...
Now I try to stay away from gimmicks, especially fragile ones |
