I'm not sure any of the following necessarily require crediting, since I think they are all as old as cards. The origins may have been forgotten. But in any case, I'm about to start sending out a document describing an effect that touches on these methods, so if the origins are known I'd like to mention it.
If anyone has any Info, I'd appreciate it. OBER EBOR: (Odd Black Even Red, Even Black Odd red) ONE WAY BACKS: (Asymetrical Back Designs) ONE WAY FACES: (Asymetrical Face Designs) FLATS AND ROUNDS: (Flat or Pointed Tops of Index Numbers Vs Round Tops) Like I say, I'm sure these fall outside the scope of what should be credited. -MM |

I can only think of one printed source for this principle. That's Don Alan's book In a Class by Himself. However, Don Alan did not originate this idea. I know where he got it from. I'm not going to discuss it here, but if you send me an e-mail at curator@cupsandballsmuseum.com with OBER-EBOR in the subject line, I'll tell you the whole dirty story about how "The Great Innovator" Don Alan got hold of this non-credited idea.

Bill, isn't the principal behind OBER EBOR related to an old Charles Jordan effect? Or am I thinking of something else?

I found what I was thinking of, but after re-reading it I think it is probably only obliquely connected, It's "Improved Marvelous Prediction" as it appears in the Encyclopedia of Card Tricks.
