Can you put parakeets and canaries in the same cage?

Very briefly! But not over night. I certainly Don't recommend it. Canaries go to sleep in the dark and fail to defend themselves. Parakeets go exploring!
I have raised both. Canaries are not very hardy for road work. Prior to the 50s they were routinely destroyed during bird cage vanishes. After exposure in Readers' Digest, rubber birds were used for many years. Working with parakeets has to be more loaded with problems than working with Black Widow Spiders. I don't plan to ever try that again. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

We used parakeets briefly this summer and it was a nightmare. Also they are not very hardy either.

I am using parakeets for Orange Lemon Egg Parakeet and have had no problem so far. Get Dave Womach's training video to help calm them down. 1 of mine is still a bit wild, but the other steps up every time you put your hand in the cage. Just a thought.

Keith,
Did you know that of parakeets that get loose in North America, they tend to migrate to the Dakotas? Farmers in the Dakotas frequently report seeing parakeets flying with other small birds in the grain fields. Your environment may be the perfect one for them! Ordinarily we see parakeets as very susceptible to respiratory problems. That is what keeps them form being very "road worthy". The colors are beautiful and load small. But I have never had any luck getting them to stay in the act very long. They go roaming in the dark. Doves go to sleep in the dark. Good Luck! Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |
