I just took apart a bicycle card box and was wondering has anyone ever tried to make their own card box from printed cardboard stock?? I'm thinking I could design it in autocad in scale, I could print what ever I want on the box, and I could also make boxes of different sizes for use with other tricks. I'd like to hear if anyone has done this themselves.

Elliott C. Evans has already done all the hard work for you. Check out his PDF card box templates at:
http://www.ee0r.com/boxes/ He's got templates for bridge and poker size, extra thick decks, etc. And if you need something special, he's got a template generator to make weird sizes, too. These make plain white boxes, but I'm sure you could use his designs as a starting point to come up with some with your own designs. I've built several of these boxes out of thin card stock, and they work great for me.

I believe Gregory Wilson, in his Card Stunts video, talks about modifying card boxes.
I've done so a couple of times, mainly when I ruin a different box. I find notecards work well for me when creating a box. I've even made some out of extra cards I had. |

Check Mr. Paul Harris. He has some creative ideas regarding card cases. Clever ideas.

5 times 5 also have very interesting deck productions and effects with the card case.
For those who believe, no explanation is necessary. For those who do not, none will suffice.

A great source for new Bicycle boxes (no cards) is Penguin's Special Order Catalog. The have them listed at $0.40 a box.
They're great for replacing old tattered boxes, but also for making a gaffed boxes. |

I need a red box right now. Think I'm going to order it for only 40 cents. Nothing to lose. I also might buy some card box seals too.

And what kind of paper will mimic the card box stock?

I've done this a few times with just thin card stock. But I simply pulled apart a card case and traced it. Then Drew my logo on it and contact information. But yes priniting would be a million times better.

Stevie D.,
I have several that are actually card cases rather than boxes because they are made of exotic leathers and made to replace the paper box the cards come in. I like them better than paper for many reasons but they are expensive to have made. They also last at least 25-40 years. I also think they keep cards dryer than paper boxes do. For working in business with executive level clientele they are simply dressy. They are also out of place in some venues. Boxes/cases can matter! Good topic! Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

Bob,
violent agreement regarding the importance of style. I actually use business card holders made out of leather. Some of them have the right size. Andy

Does anyone know if they sell unfolded card boxes? I have some ideas for modifying card boxes, but it would be great if I could buy the boxes unfolded, in a sheet, rather than taking apart pre-folded/glued boxes.
Thanks1 |

Bob,
thanks for the compliment, but it is really a matter of need for me. As for the holder size, you need to look for card holders designed for the heavy users - people that work at trade shows etc and need to hand out and receive a substantial amount of cards, sales reps that travel around with a bunch of client cards etc. You are right, it takes some time to find some, as most holders are rather slim and split into several compartments. So I automatically keep my eyes open when I stroll around . . . Not sure about it, but I guess some mobile phone holders might also qualify for our needs. Andy

If you have access to a color laser printer it will make very beatyfull copies of the cardbox. The print from the color laser is a little glossy like the original. Much better than a print from an inkjet printer. You could experiment with different types of paper/cardboard and also make your own shells and "disposable" decks and shrinking and colorchanging boxes. Trolle |
