Reed McClintock uses it in his Ninth Dynasty.
I've been playing with the muscle pass for some time now, (about a year) Reed gave me a great tip for getting that callus in the hand smoother, there fore an easier, (I find) way to muscle pass coins. Use a 'wooden' coin. Before you start throwing your coins at me, hear me out. The coin made out of wood, and smoothed down is great for developing the callus in the hand. It makes it smoother, hence a little easier to shoot the coin out of the hand. Now, my magic shop was handing these 'wooden' coins out for people who bought stuff at Canada's Wonderland, so they could get something free at the regular shop. It may be a little harder for you to find, but if you can get one, its great for developing the callus (Because it doens't rip your palm up), and then you can practice it longer. |

Wickedx, I bought the softcover version of Bobo's at Davenports Magic when I was on a trip in London. The shop and the staff were great.

I have a routine in my lecture notes that uses the muscle pass in a different way. Let me know if anyone is interested.

So overall what would everyone say is the average time to be able to get the darn coin to move more than a 1/4". I have just started trying the MP and I don't seem to be getting anywhere quick.

Give yourself about 2 weeks, do the MP every time you're free, and you should be doing 8-10 inches in no time.

I have a friend that works as a professional on the weekends. He told me that the MP started out as a clean up by shooting the coin horizontilly into the other hand with a little misdirection. If that's true he did not know who to give the credit to. He works in restaurants and usually does the MP to children he'll approach a child or children and ask "I know that you have seen something fall down (at which time he shows the coin and holds it approx. a ft.and a half and drops the coin in the bottom waiting hand) he then asks them if they have ever seen something fall up? He then performs a MP and repeats one more time. It is killer for the children and usually gets a very good reaction for the adult on lookers. Hey, it works really well for him. I'm just starting on this sleight and am having the difficulty that you must endure to perfect this sleight/flourish. Best.
In December of '06 I was diagnosed with a very rare cancer, Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans. One in a million people worldwide are diagnosed with this type of cancer annually. Sarcomas account for 1% of all cancers. Knowledge is power!

Lee,
John Cornelius popularized the MP as 'coin falls up' and 'coin through table'. The application to a spider grip vanish as a transfer from CP to LH FP is hardly practical for most folks. What JC was doing probably makes the best sense for general audience use. best, Jonathan
...to all the coins I've dropped here

I believe the original reference for the Muscle Passes is Buckley's 'Principles and Deceptions'. My buddy Tom Frank told me a story about Geoff Latta doing muscle passes in both hands as a faux explanation of spellbound. Geoff is this true?
