"Curtis Kam is one of the Real Masters of Coin Magic"
The last wave of discovery placed an astounding array of new techniques at our very fingertips. Despite this, magicians still trot out the same coin tricks that they did over fifty years ago. Curtis Kam’s 2006 lecture is about to change all that. “Earning Interest” is your first step into the next wave, where it’s all about turning better moves into better magic!
In “The Earning Interest-the Coin Lecture” you will learn the real work behind groundbreaking coin routines. Learn why most “coins through the table” handlings don’t make sense, why some “consistencies” are foolish, and why the best way to prove your hands are empty is to do nothing at all. All the effects rely on skill and subtlety rather than expensive gimmicks or weird clothing. They are drawn from Curtis Kam’s working repertoire, and are designed to be performed standing, sleeveless and under real world conditions. As a special bonus, and, only if you’re in the Misdirections Magic Shop audience this night, you’ll also learn the commercial card routines Curtis has used professionally for years, as well as some items that are neither card nor coin. This is a rare chance to see Curtis performing Cards!!! One special footnote, you’ll be happy to hear that you don’t need “Palms of Steel” to pull these off. “EZ-to Master” magic from Curtis Kam? You’ll have to come see it to believe it!
Curtis Kam has created groundbreaking coin magic for over 25 years. Best known as the hands behind the “Palms of Steel” videos, his finely crafted close up has appeared in his own books: “Professional Close-Up of Curtis Kam - Deceptions in Paradise” and “All the World’s a Stage” as well as in Harry Lorrayne’s “Best of Friends 2” and “Apocalypses,” and his own DVD’s: “Fists of Fury,” “Silverado,” “The Rat Trap,” “The Las Vegas Magic Invitation Collection,” and “The COINvention.” He has been a strolling and restaurant performer for over 25 years, headlined an illusion show in Waikiki for over a decade, and has designed and staged illusions for multi-million dollar productions. He has lectured to magicians in Australia, Japan, throughout the U.S. and was a featured performer of all seven Hawaii Wonderworkers’ Workshops.
“Curtis Kam thinks his magic out and for that he is to be admired.” - Jeff Busby
“This is pretty good…” - Paul Harris
“Curtis Kam is extremely skillful. He’s also an unusually fine composer of routines with a strong beginning, middle, and end.” - Gordon Bean
Do not miss this event!!! One Night Only!!! This is the last lecture of the year!!!

EXIT Theatre Presents Christian Cagigal's The 13 Steps
EXIT Café FRI/SAT 8:30pm OCT 13 - OCT 28
Tickets $12 - $20 sliding scale at the door; $20 online tickets. Reservations at 415-673-3847
An intimate evening of close-up illusion, theater and mindreading guided by actor and award winning magician Christian Cagigal (Winnner Best of Fringe 2004-Magic @ the Fringe) "Close-up magic is the kind of theater where no 4th wall is allowed," says Cagigal, "With close-up magic you don't just watch the show, you are the show. You can't sit invisibly in the dark and safely contemplate what you are seeing; you are an active participent. What happens in the show happens to you."
Christian Cagigal has had successful runs in both the 2003 and 2004 SF Fringe Festivals. He has consulted for The San Francisco Ghost Hunt Walking Tour (as seen in the SF Chronicle and the Travel Channel) as well as Crowed Fire and A.C.T.'s MFA Program. Cagigal is also a member of reknowned San Francisco Mime Troupe (no not that kind of mime) where he just finished a fantastic run as an actor and apprentice writer on this summers hit, Godfellas.
But, starting October Friday the 13th Christian Cagigal returns to his roots with his next venture into the world of illusion or as he likes to call it, "..questioning reality..." Whether your are a strong believer or staunch skeptic 13 Steps promises to ask the question, "Do you really know what is fake and what is real?"
....what's your answer.........?
"...emotionally affecting...." --Jean Shiffman-Backstage West
"...intimate spectacle...it's no coincidence that "Cagigal" rhymes with "magical." -- Chloe Veltman-SF Weekly

And to the above, I can only add that I'll have the rest of the weekend to hang out in the SF area, dropping in on the shows of you guys who don't come to the lecture at Joe's. I'm bringing everyone from the lecture, and we will be drinking.

You've been warned--be there at Joe's, or there will be petty criticism and loud merrymaking at your expense! Smile
Is THAT a PALMS OF STEEL 5 Banner I see? YARRRRGH! Please visit The Magic Bakery
