I sent in my stuff overnight mail at the first of the month and have yet to get a response. I had two endorsements and sent in the correct amount of money via USPS money order. Just wanted to know because I need to be in the IBM before I can officially join my local magic club and vote on things.

If you sent your application in around the 1st part of October, you should be getting it any time now. I'm actually surprised it has taken this long.
You might contact Sindie (IBM Secty.) and make sure she got it. She can be reached via email at office@magician.org . Good luck, and Welcome to the IBM! Mark. |

The time I joined it took a couple of months to get my membership card. I don't know how long it takes for the house organ to start arriving as I never subscribed to the magazine.
When I didn't renew my membership it took about three years for the renewal letters to stop arriving with the final query asking my heirs if I had died.

Part of the approval process is to have your name published in the Linking Ring. Needless to say, with lead time and print schedules, this takes a while. I think when I joined some 20 years ago, it took about 3-4 months.

3 months usually, could reach to 4 months. I have been recruiting and following up membership applications since I became a member.

That sucks. I need my number and what not to vote on my clubs stuff. That has seriously bummed me out. I also need my number to get me in to the conventions also...

Well...again, I would suggest emailing Sindie at the address above. She might be able to help, but you would never know until you at least tried!

No real news as of yet. The good news is my club is letting me join. It helps when the Prez is one of your endorsers.

We'll actually allow you to attend a few meetings before requesting that you send your dues in to the parent assembly. I'm also not to sure how closely we check to make sure your membership is current either. But then when you have eighty or ninety members it's hard to keep track. We're much more interested in whether you're up on your local dues or not as that's the money that keeps the club going.

I was wondering how long it takes, as well. The app was sent in and the check was cashed. I keep checking the mailbox every day in hopes that there'll be something there. So far...nada. Hope it doesn't take 3 months! What a bummer that would be!!!
I've got another question: When will next year's dues be due? A year from when they cashed my check or a year from when I was ACTUALLY able to enjoy membership? If it takes a couple/few months and dues come due when they cashed my check, then part of the first year would "disappear." Hmmm. Anyone know the answer? |

Great question Bendy. You might email Sindie at the address above. She can answer that question since she handles the renewals for the IBM. Please let us know what you find out.

Sindie replied to my first inquiry. Seems it is, in fact, a 3 month process. I will be in the December issue of the magazine and, if there are no problems, my membership packet should be mailed out on January 15th.
I have sent another inquiry to Sindie, asking when the renewal dues will be due, (in mid-October of next year or mid-January of the following). My point is that if I paid for a full year, but am required to submit renewal fees in 9 months, I have essentially been robbed of 25% of the year's benefits of membership. I'll post the reply once it arrives. |

Here is the reply to my second inquiry:
"Your membership will run from 11/01/2006 to 11/01/2007. You will start receiving the Linking Ring in December 2006 and the last one you will receive if you choose not to renew your membership would be December 2007. So you can see you will get a full year of Linking Rings." |
