I am looking for some cheap spinning plates. Years ago, I think Mak Magic made these plates that did not have an outer lip. Does anybody have a clue where I could find some?
Thanks in advance? |

Check with a juggling store -- Air Traffic comes to mind or try a search for spinning plates

I don't know about ones with no lip but the best cheap plastic plate are the cathy's flexiplate as sold by http://www.butterfingers.co.uk They are a good weight and balance and difficult to damage (although not impossible if you let a kid from a special school near them!) Otherwise you end up with a plate which is nowhere near as good and I've used a lot of really bad plates over the years.
Nigel now if you want to know about plates for plate manipulation...
I knew a man who kept saying "pliers, pincers, scissors". He was speaking in tongs.

And what do you have on manipulation plates?? |

OK Metal plates, there aren't many around at the moment. Beard do an aluminium plate (www.beard.co.uk) but I'm not that keen on them. Dube used to make nice plates and the rumour is that they intend to start making them again soon but they were never cheap. I think there's one other type of metal plate on the market and that's no better than the Beard one and more expensive.
As for manipulation plates. Depends what you want to do with them. Practice, plastic plates Asda (walmart) did great plates last summer they were multi-colour spots on clear acrylic intended for picnic use. Very very hard to break and therefore better than most stuff I've used. Andy Vass (UK juggler) uses 4 camping plates glued together (works well looks ugly) I tried enamelled plates and they chip really quickly and become horrible to use. Also sound horrrible but if you're used to shaker cups they aren't that bad. I also have a large supply of china plates (not earthenware as they chip and break too easily) Nigel

Howdy One Man,
The plate you are thinking of was from a circus company called Janack(Sp?). They used to make school circus equipment. The plates were great and lasted forever (I still have one I bought in 94, but years on the road well it still works awesome, but it aint pretty.) Now I use the last Dube style plates but I am in need of some new ones as well . Sorry to not be much help! Larry |
