I just came from a fabric store. I priced velvet at $19.99 a yard!
There was less expensive fabric like crushed panne but it didn't look as good and you can see through it. Has anyone found a better alternative?

If you don't stretch the crushed panne out flat you cannot see thru it.
Leave it bunched up a bit on the crossbar a bit and you'll be fine.

Buy a section and test it out.

Who said magic would be cheap?

Please also check that the Velvet you use is Fireproofed or will take a fireproof spray treatment and not matte.
