Ok, this arrived yesterday....'Homicide uk', 'Sinister', and 'Whitechapel'. Three killer books (pun intended). I spent last night reading the methods, very easy and clearly explained, but soo well hidden. The books themselves 'look' right and 'non propy'. I'm delighted with my purchase. I see these books as very powerfull tools that can be used to create wonderfull presentations. I love framing my effects within a strong story/narrative and to that end these books are ideal. I honestly believe that I can let my imagination run riot with both pre set, and (for me even more exhillerating)free assosiation/jaz mentalism. A true joy and soo full of incredible possibilities.
Thanks Rick for releasing your maddness (better out than in) best wishes, steve. |

You may want to check out the movie "From Hell" with Johnny Depp and Robbie Coletrane. It is ripe with association and application for these three effects. The premise of Johnny Depp as a clairvoyant Chief Inspector back then, could offer you some ceative insight for very credible presentational possibilities, (chanelling his spirit to profile these more modern crimes). Perhaps the idea of revealing one of the killers in Sinister UK as a reincarnation of the "Ripper", and some of the victims as "descendants" of his victims back then. Even using the pawnshop book as proof, since some of the items were originally owned by those from the 1800's. Something to let your imagination "run riot" on ?

I used to work around Whitechapel.
It's still a spooky place...narrow alleys and roads, old buildings... Thanks guys for the great suggestions!
I do want to point out that Homicide is the only book in the Trilogy that actually has any graphic details regarding the methods of the murders. Manhattanville and Whitechapel are annual log books of the pawn shops both the victims and killers visited. Sinister is a "profile" book. Granted these are not your mainstream hardcover book tests, but they can absolutely be used with any audience (except young children). |

How about using the Son of Mindscan to have a spectator "recreate" taking a message at the pawnshop by writing the name, number and one of the items pawned on the message pad. Not only can you tell what the message is, but also everything about the person's info.
Nothing would get done at all, if man waited so long that no one could find fault with it.

Do you know the best or rather most authentic place to perform them (i don't have the booktests though) anyway the best place to perform them in an impromptu setting is - The Ten Bells pub, a 5 minute walk from liverpool street station, just down Gun Street...
the ten bells pub is featured in the film From Hell, was were all the ladies of the night used to drink, and is still very victorian and art deco in places...and they still serve absinthe!
I've asked to be banned

The Ten Bells is also mentioned in the story I wrote for Doc Spectors book "Mirror Mirror"...the two words end the short short story with a final chill.

I found these old books in an antique's shop in the infamous Whitechapel area of London... The owner told me a strange tale of how he had happened upon them only the day before...
They came, just as you see them today, bound by that single ribbon... I am looking in a mirror, I'm seeing her reflection... shes putting on lipstick... So beautiful, such a happy face... A real English Rose... She's picked something up off the table and is staring at it, thinking, I can't quiet make out what it is... now she's putting on her hat. Do you know what her favourite colour was??? wait... ...now I see her looking at a shop... Its the antique shop I found the books in!!! No wait... its before then... it's the pawnbrokers!!! Please look through the book and see if a name stands out to you in some way. It maybe a feeling like someone is walking over your grave or that feeling you get when you don't know wether your awake or still dreaming... ...I'm going in... theres a strange man in there looking down at his ticket... Now I'm looking at my ticket... a sad feeling has come over me, a feeling of loss... I can't quiet make out the numbers but I'm seeing a ... ...and that thing in her hand was a ... She was pawning her mothers ... ... but wait something Sinister happened that day in the infamous Whitechapel District... She was murdered... Would you like to hear more? Whats that? No... Well I'm sorry but her story must be told... - HOMICIDE - I feel there must be a connection... Why I found these books in the antique shop, how they came together... they must be trying to tell us something... Please, take another look through the pawnbrokers book and see if there's a Gentleman's name in there that stands out to you, it may give you the chills when you read it, or make your hairs stand on end... it may simply be a feeling of deja vu... lets take a look... I'm in the pawnbrokers again looking at a ticket... I see the numbers... He has pawned a... It was his fathers... ... I'm looking up now and I see her, I see - insert name - ... Staring... Feelings of hatred... B1TCH!!! I'm watching her now... watching from a distance, where its safe... I would like to pluck that pretty little Rose, pluck her into my reality... - SINISTER - I bundle the books back together, taking the ribbon carefully, ready to put their story, her story, to rest... ...it was hers, the ribbon, She was wearing it that day... See her initials are right there... ...THE END

These are by far my favourite in my collection of Outlaw Booktests
I also love the way you can do a Sanctum 2 type of performance with these books. Setting the spectators up to describe the Murder scene, the victim or the personality profile of the Killer. It would be very cool to pull out a csi style photograph depicting the scene the spectater just described. I will be marking mine up over the weekend, I've come up with a coding system to mark it up for the above act. Some great ideas on the forum, Thanks guys... In fact the writing behind Sanctum 2 and 3 and the effect have changed the way I think about Mentalism forever. Groundbreaking stuff. Very exciting.

This...is without any doubt the best mentalism effect/act I ever owned!
I will NEVER buy ANY other mentalism effects from now on, Trilogy UK is my ultimate mentalism 'grail' and it will never get any better than this. And I'm serious about this; My collection is complete..this was my last mentalism purchase EVER. |

Congrats Beckers and Daniels, I my self am allways looking for the holy grail and it seems for yourself that you have found it. For me it was luna that ended my book test quest, I don't no if I'll ever by any other book test now that I've started performing it so often.

Thanks Daren!
I think the best thing about the Outlaw book tests is..they aren't book tests... It isn't the simple "pick a word, your word is ......."-booktest. This effect can be your signature. This effect can be your show...This show can be your sign...aaaargh it's great! |

I was in London last week on business and I jumped on the tubes and headed to Whitechapel. I stopped for a pint at the Ten Bells Pub. Wow, what a hole in the wall! I had my UK Trilogy with me but there was noone to show it to. The place was empty, there was me, my buddy, the bar tender and one drunk sitting in the corner. Here is a picture
