I know Johnny Carson and Orsen Wells were both into magic but not magicians. Does anybody know of a list of famous people who got their start in magic, or were devoted hobbyists?

Dick Cavett actually won an IBM new performer trophy and worked as a paid professional before going off to Yale, and then fame. Dick has suffered criticism for not releasing extremely valuable footage of Slydini performing some of his effects on his show. He was a student of Slydini and wrote an extremely warm and heartfelt Foward to the book set The Best of Slydini and More. It's with expectaton and hope that Cavett will release all of his recorded Slydini footage on forthcoming Dick Cavett Show dvds.

If I'm not mistaken Bill Bixby may have had an interest in magic when he starred in "The Magician" series. Anyone care to expound or elaborate on this? Also, wasn't Mark Wilson a consultant on this show?

Yes mark was the consultant on the magician and appeared on it too, Bill was a member of the Castle, Cary Grant was also a magician, and I would argue that while Orson Wells and Johnny weren't best known for being magicians, they were still both magicians
