I am looking for a good silver dollar, or equivalent (i.e same size and quality), shell and matching coins. Dill's set has been heralded as the pinnacle of these sets but I was wondering how the other expensive ones compare to Dills'?
I would especially like to hear about the van Dokkum coins since it would be easiest to order them within the EU rather than ordering expensive gaffs from the US. All in all, I think it doesn't really matter if one set costs $100 more if there is a substancial difference. The purchase will be very expensive in any case. Thank you, Pekka |

I know Todd Lassen ships to Europe all the time, so you might check with him.

I'm sure all of them are good. Maybe some are better. I don't know. I know who I get my coins from and I'm happy with everything I've bought from him. I would suggest you buy from him but someone else would then say he's lousy and a crook and you should instead buy from so and so. Then another person would counter. And it's downhill from there.
The ideal thing would be able to see and handle the various coin maker's work. If you can't do that I'd study their websites, what they have to offer, and prices. Get in contact with them if you have specific questions. Again, I believe you'll get a fine gaff from any of these guys. |

Ask each maker for price including shipping. Can't be that expensive to mail a few coins. I would say each of those you mention can make as good a coin set as the other. You need to specificy exactly what coins you want and the degree of WEAR... soft coins or re-milled.

I have gaffs made by Todd Lassen, Jamie Schoolcraft and Vsn Dokkum and I am more than happy with all of them, I recently had a Morgan dollar shell set of Van Dokkum, he sent me a teflon sheet and a shim for no extra cost. Personally I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

Sounds like arguing who's better - Schoolcraft or Lassen - is like arguing which type of water is the wettest. It's all good!
