I've had a rough couple of years with stress at work and some medical problems. The project at work that I was working on has shut down and I'm being laid off.
Not really tragic, but a bit depressing. I'm definitely looking for the SAM 9 holiday party, it should cheer me up quite a bit. Anyone in the Boston, MA area need a software engineer with extensive C/C++/Unix experience?

Hey Marty, sorry to hear about you being laid off. I'm sure that's not any fun at any time, especially around the holidays. I wish you good fortune in finding another job, soon.
Margarette, who might come up with something a bit more cheery after I've had a decent night's sleep!
The only stupid question is the one not asked.

Marty,
If the last couple of years have been rough a work then maybe this is a blessing in disguise?? I know it isn't fun when you are going through it but be assurred things will work out ok. Keep in mind that a positive attitude is most important to move on to the next level. My only offering is words of wisdom from a senior freind of mine who has faced many hard times and beat cancer twice with his attitude of... "If you can't see the bright side... polish up the dull!" Things work out. They really do. (And this isn't just some PollyAnna crap.)
Whenever I've lost a job, I've gotten a better one. Whenever my health has been bad, I've recovered and appreciated life even more. Whenever I've despaired, I've learned to let God handle it, and I've come away happier in the end. So go ahead and feel sorry for yourself for a day or two (that's okay - it's therapeutic and natural), then pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again. It'll be okay. Really.

Give this a go - from the Anthony Robbins book “Notes To Myself”.
Daily MORNING Questions to ask yourself: · What am I Happy about? · What am I Excited about? · What am I Proud about? · What am I Grateful for? · What do I Enjoy? · What am I Committed to? · Who do I Love? Try to find three or more answers for each item After each answer ask yourself ‘How does that make me feel?’ VERY IMPORTANT: If you cannot find anything to be Happy about, ask yourself: “What COULD I be Happy about” “What COULD I be Excited about” etc. Daily EVENING Questions to ask yourself: · What have I Given today? · What have I Learnt today? · How have I added to the Quality of my life today? Try to allow NO negative thoughts, feelings, questions, words, or metaphors ---------------------- The way that I remember these questions is to use the mnemonics below: Morning Power Questions: – (HEP GEKL) H – What Happy about? E – What Excited about? P – What Proud about? G – What Grateful for? E – What Enjoy? K – What C(K)ommitted to? L – Who Love? Evening Questions: – (GLQ) G – What Given today? L – What Learnt today? Q – What added to Quality of my life today? |

Yes! Do not give up!
My life have been ups and downs so much in the last 18 months. I thought about give up many times but I hang on ... now things turn a little bit better. So, as long as there is a breath to breathe, you will always have a chance.
