Okay here it goes!
The Raven: Pros -An extraordinarily visual coin vanish -Can be done off of a spectator's own hand -Virtually indetectable from any angle Cons -Jacket required, unless you do the modified version which brings up a whole new set of problems, and isn't nearly as convenient -Extremely limited -Poor resetability in my opinion The Bat: Pros -Create mentalist and PK type effects -Do the really cool spinning gold ring trick that's on the demo -Can be used for a similar vanish to Raven Cons -Highly ineffective -Requires unnatural movements that are fishy to use -Not very powerful for PK effects My honest opinion? I have both and do not use either. The Raven was fun for about a day, and then it gets old. The Bat is genuinly useless for the type of effect it is made for. If you have to choose between the two absolutely get The Raven, but in all honesty your money could be much better spent. I know many people feel differently than I do about both of these products, but I can tell you that in a professional, working environment neither of them lends well in terms of practicality. As an added side note, I can tell you that Penguin does not always keep poor reviews around. I know for a fact that I have left poor but dead honest reviews on effects that have mysteriously dissappeared as if by magic, both off of their product pages and in the forum. Just a word to the wise that looking for reviews for Penguin products on Penguin's site can be misleading. |

I have purchased both, and never used either one in performance. If you like the principle, and have a little sleight of hand skill, I would go with a PK ring.
Brian did a fantastic job of summing it up.

There is one item used for vanishes and appearences that I swear by, as do many other professionals in the field, and that is the Trabucco Holdout. Available here from Elmwood Magic, the Trabucco Holdout is the single most powerful utility item/holdout on the market (in my opinion). It is much more costly than either The Bat or The Raven, but if you work for real people then it is well worth the cost. If you do not work professionally or out in the real world on a daily basis, then I would not recommend it. There are plenty of threads running around the Magic Café forums that deal with the Trabucco Holdout in case you'd like some more information.
Also montemagic metioned a PK ring. This is a great buy for what it is but let me warn you again about Penguin - the Wizard PK Ring as sold on Penguin Magic is only the large size, which will only fit the largest fingers. If you have normal sized hands or are a younger teenager, this will not fit you. Other magic sites including Elmwood Magic sell the ring in three different sizes. I never like to see a fellow magi throwing away money, so anytime I can help you out go right ahead and ask |

Iv said this before to people , learn the revolution coin vanish, good sleight of hand will always come before a gimmick.

I might buy a raven kit from penguin myself. Even if most people say they don't use it, I want to explore the possibilities with it.
If I don't like it, I'll have a Raven somewhere in my drawer if I need it (I'll use it to get my car keys if I drop them in the sewers) PS: Revolution is nice, always fun to do. |

I own both, and while the Raven is very slick, the limitations are there. The setup (even though it only takes a few minutes) turns me off. However I have to respectfully disagree about the bat. I find the bat to me much more useful/versatile, and the bat can accomplish the same vanish as the raven. So my vote is for the bat.
