Hey there paul,
I'm greatly awed by your consultation work for film/tv. I think this is a fantastic area to be in. Could you briefly describe how you fell into this. I.E you have friends in the industry, you pushed and pushed to get out there doing it ? were you head hunted ? Please please reveal some true secrets... Cheerio... |

A friend had a script he was selling for years. It was about card mechanics and we had spent a lot of time talking about it at the Castle.
When he achieved the impossible and got the film greenlit, with himself as director, I was called and asked if I would be interested in advising because I shared his love of film and had the necessary expertise to fix any problems in the script (relating to cheating and gambling) and coach the actors to perform their roles without resorting to inserts for the card work. The film was Shade. I ended up doing much more than consult and was, essentially, treated to my own tailored film school! From there I went on to pitch several ideas around town. One was Takedown, which I co-produced, wrote and starred in. While waiting for Takedown to go ahead, I was asked to consult on Mondo Magic. I eneded up with a production role. It was a tough gig in some ways but another chance to prove myself and working with the guys was a blast. After Takedown last year, one of the Mondo producers hooked me up with Joe Carnahan and he brought me on to Smokin' Aces. Takedown was on the air and I remember doing my thing for Joe at Jeremy Piven's house. I got the job and a part in the movie! By the time Smokin Aces came around I had already shot a pilot for the BBC, which had been picked up. Between shooting Real Hustle and Smokin' Aces I was really stretched (between London and LA!) but it was worth the effort. This year I also took a week to shoot a series for Italian TV called Arcana - it's a terrific show and their first magic TV show for many years. I gave a presentation on cheating in almost every episode. Right now I have my agent pitching my own script, I'm almost finished a second script and I am pitching two dramas and two reality shows plus a documentary! All of this has to be properly written out and ready, in case someone bites. It's a busy life but I love it... P |

Man that's some great stuff!
I hope you continue to get the money and the gigs. I look forward to your next film production! Are your current scripts, dramas, reality shows and documentaries in the vein of hustling and the con? SW
