Hello Café Friends,
I need your help. I'm currently working on a Ring Vanish and Reappearance in a Nest of Boxes. The Ring will appear inside a Quarter Box or Quarter Go Trick. I need to know what would be the best way to vanish the ring. I need to retrieve it quickly. Please leave me some ideas. Thanx! Jeff |

How about catapult vanish?
You can find it in Brian Platt's DVD "Catapult". It left you with both hands clean. The retrieve is rather easy too. |

Robert Harbin, doing his nest of boxes vanished a ring by the oldest, yet the best method ever. He put the ring under a handkerchief and had the owner of the ring hold it through the cloth. Then, when he gripped a corner of the handkerchief and whisked it away the ring was gone. The spectator is CONVINCED that she is holding HER ring.
Believe me, this is one of the most effective, yet simplest ways ever.

Jeff,
Check out my new No Ring Ring Hank. The spectator holds on to their own ring the entire time, up until the vanish. PM me if you would like more detailed information. Lynetta |

With the no ring hank, is it easy to do what you want with the ring immediately after the disappearance?

Most ring and sting routines end with the ring vanishing off the string and either reappearing on the other hand of the performer on one of his/her fingers. If you do a ring and sting routine there are some very good methods for vanishing at the end. And to add strength or "punch" most of them have the owner of the ring holding the ends of the sting while the ring is BELIVED to be secured on the string in the closed fist of the performer. So instead of having the ring make it's return on one of the fingers of the performers hand...it shows up in the box. But then again I do not know what your motivation or lead-in is to having the ring vanish. I think vanishing and object and making it reappear in a different location is lacking. Just seem you would have to build up a lot of patter and by-play if it is just going to be a simple vanish and reappearance. With a ring and string you have so much more, A few penetrations each seeming more amazing than the next. then you can do the "Off Again and On Again" and then the vanish...and for the climax the ring is found not on your other hand but locked inside the "Box of No Escape" or what ever you want to call it....either way you just took a 30 second quick trick and made it into nice flowing routine, and it is not the same as every other "Ring on the String"....actually I made it to that routine....BUT you can have it. Along with the thunderous ovation and cheers for the amazing feat of magical entertainment you have just provided your spectators. WARNING: Thunderous cheers and ovations of amazement, are not guaranteed and RJ Hunt and Sleightly Dangerous are not responsible for any lack there of. Some restrictions apply, Side effects may include... PS Good ring and string routines can be found in Ammar’s book, Encore if you can find it, I also think he put it in his Complete works or “The Magic of M. Ammar” If you need some help feel free to PM me. I can get you some info. Happy Holidays RJ Sleightly Dangerous |

Lynetta's hank is ingenious and very deceptive. I've used it for walk around and during every one of my standup shows this Christmas season. Very deceptive and delivers the ring safely to your hand the second you need it.
For walk around I simply had a small key in an empty card box on the table. I vanished the ring (after using it in Tom Stone's Okito Box routine) and dropped it in a Lippencott Box in my pocket. I say the ring is now in the card box, shake it (something is heard rattling around) and out drops the key. I use the key to open the box. You can use a simple Bobo Switch for the key and ring just as easily. Getting back to the hank - it's one of my most reliable, go-to props I use. You won't be disappointed. |

You might check out Joe Porper's STRONG BOX with Gaetan Bloom's great routine. You don't need to vanish the ring. You just poke it thru a hole in a paper bag an dit winds up in a locked metal box.

I remember David Copperfield did a ring to hourglass in one of his TV specials, and his thread the ring onto a ribbon, and then put it in a ring box, and then vanished the ring. Is this a gimmick box or sleight of hand?
