Lately I've noticed a ,somewhat, sudden burst in the field of Seance and Ghostly magic. I've got to say that personaly I've been swept off my feet with each new trick I learned and they all leave me begging for more.
I've also noticed that most of the 'stuff' used to create that sort of magic is either pretty simple materials or highly complexed technical mods/hacks. But the thing that brings it all togather and gets me even more into it is the fact that most of the 'stuff' is buildable - meaning - magic that you need to work and build the gimmick yourself - which to me, is very rewarding. I would like to share with you some of the 'stuff' I managed to put my hands on ; books, videos, ideas... and I would really like to get some feedback on these things (good and bad) and more importantly - hear about what you all found, have or created. so here goes : Books : Rick Maue - The Book Of Haunted Magick, Docc Hilford - The 1000 Dollar Secret Seance Lebanon Circle - The Spirit Cell Lee Earle - Manifestations Videos : Dixie Dooley - Seance Derren Brown - Seance Andrew Mayne - Ghost Vision And of course there are other things that you can use as part of a Seance like : mind reading, electric touch... There are some things I only heard about and haven't had the chance to get (yet) like : All of the Lebanon Circle stuff, Poltergeist, Brian Brushwood material, Barry & Stuart material and I suppose many more, maybe you all could help me find some new stuff. BTW - I'm also now working on creating a killer EVP effect using a television, maybe I'll even manage to get some visual on it (hopefuly).
The general idea is something close to the scene in the movie "White Noise" and the basic routine/storyline actually includes the movie. I'm already half way there, and even as it is right now, makes a hell of a spooke yet I don't believe it's enough to publish as it is, so I working my brains off trying to figure out the second part of the act I plan. If there is already a trick similar to that, or you created something like that - please let me know. I'm pretty sure just giving the idea mentioned above - makes a lot of your brains pop up with ideas and ways to create this sort of trick. If that happens also be kind enough to let me know and maybe we can also help each other creating the ultimate effect. Regards |

Laban, you've barely scratched the surface.
The best recommendation I can give you is that you take a few days to simply peruse this forum up and down, it's a goldmine of information - you'll learn the good books, the bad books, the good props, the bad props, ideas, and of course, theres lots of grey area, since so much of this is subjective. BTW, it's on my rather long "to do" list, but I've got a similar idea for a TV, using a low power VHF transmitter. There are 2 or 3 sources for those, but inexpensive good ones are hard to find due to FCC restrictions. However, there are two I have my eye on, one is from Ramsey electronics, the other.. I have the link, but I don't know it offhand. That could be lotsssss of fun !
Just hanging out with the rest of my fellow dregs.

Darn, don't ya hate it when someone turns out quality? Dougs props rock & shock,,, and anyone even thinking of getting a "Dark Museum" should do so before the coming onslaught... Having seen a couple of the routines... the stuff is amazing.

The collected works are in the final edit and revision (updates) and should go to the publisher in early to mid-January. Then it should all be on automatic.

Lary Kuehn (a/k/a T. Everett Bookings, III), welcome to the Magic Café! Lary was one of the major seace resources during the Invocation's heyday.
Lary just sent me a remastered 2 CD set of Boo II - The Audio, originally recorded in 1989. What a wonderful time capsule! Some very nice seance ideas, and it was great to hear these voices again, especially that wonderful deep voice of the legendary Tony Andruzzi as Masklyn ye Mage. |

We just finished our second season of seance shows. I can highly recommend Spirit Theatre, Lee Earle's Manifestations, Capricornian Tales, and Eugene Burger's Strange Ceremonies for inspiration. Also great for general bizzare magical ideas is Cantrip Codex by Tony Shiels, if you can find a copy. I just got my copy of Vo Du Ma Gick which is excellent. Some of those ideas will no doubt work their way into next year's production in some form or other.
