I have seen bits of Andy's routine and THAT alone is worth the admission price! If the cups were plastic the price would still be well worth it for what you are getting.

I have received several emails from Andy after my order and he talks to me personally as a friend, and I now consider him a friend. When I receive my Comic Cups kit, I will also write an honest review. Best regards, Glenn Godsey |

Since you did not see my original e-mails, or my PMs to Andy, you do not know what you are talking about. I used the e-mail address he gave in his profile. I used the e-mail information on his web site. I sent him a private message. Now, you have received private messages on this forum, so you know what happens when a private message arrives. You get an e-mail from the Café that gives Steve's e-mail address and tells you that you have a PM. If you sent me an e-mail at either of the e-mail addresses you have for me and I do not open it, is it YOUR inept e-mail, my not opening it or the possibility that there is some kind of intereference on the internet that is to blame? It could be all of the above. However, when you try every possible method over a period of time, then you begin to suspect where the problem is. It looks like someone has failed to answer his e-mails. Andy admitted in a previous post that he doesn't open his e-mails regularly. To a person like me who does a lot of business on the internet, that is very suspicious. As a matter of fact, I went back to check on when all of this started with Andy, and I found this thread: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......start=30 This has been going on since AUGUST of last year. His prices change from one quote to another. That looks suspicious. Andy says that he makes his own cups. There is a difference between making your own cups and having someone make them for you. I will know when the cups arrive what the real situation is. I based my judgment as to what cups they were from the photos on the internet and the measurements given. It would be a huge coincidence if these cups came in and looked exactly like the ones MM is selling and had the same measurements. What conclusion would you come to in that case. Finally, the idea of the chop cup wand is something that was marketed over here by one of our forum members as part of a routine. I wonder how Andy came up with that. It's quite possible that he hit on the same idea. I've invented things that already existed and so has just about everyone else who has been in magic for any length of time. So, let's let this rest until we have actual cups to work with. One other thing Andy, when you say "a cup is a cup," all I can say is "Horsepuckey."

I just thought that Our "magicians helping magicians" group treated Andy rather rudely based on assumptions. One can be suspicious and refrain from accusations until the facts come in. I e-mailed Andy once and he send me several nice, personal replies...that is my experience and I thought that I should let people know that maybe the vagaries of e-mail to China might be the culprit, not the person. I like Andy's performance snips and I like his friendly messages to me. I see now that my criticism sounded rude to you and I apologize. More later...I am late to class. Best regards, Glenn Godsey |

Interesting about the wand. I wasnt sure what has been made before. I've been using the gimmic for a few years now and decided to make it. My previous employer also made one as well for a magic kit. As far as the price goes, yes it does change depending on the batch made and the copper price and also postal theft. I've had a lot of trouble with OS orders recently. I had one customer receive only 2 cups. Someone actually opened the box and stole one cups! The cups I have were designed by me to my specs and made by a factory in China near our factory. I work for a large magic toy manufacteur in China....anyone want to guess who?

All this little controversy is good for Andy. Curiosity got the best of me so I ordered the "coins from cards, "poker chips" and the "cups and balls kit". Based on a couple positive comments regarding Andy's character from well known memmbers here I felt confident in purchasing what seems like good value for the $. I'll post reviews when I receive.
As far as the cups and balls, I think I'm qualified to give a resepectable review. Although I'm not one of the better known members here I do own dozens of cups and balls sets from various makers and use them regularly(getting quite proficient I might add). Yea yea, I'm no Bill Palmer but my god, isn't one Bill Palmer enough?! I love ya Bill and always appreciate your views, advice and comments. Bill is certainly a vauable commodity in the magic community. (I fig'd some good honest sucking up was in order after my comment.) And yes we are all entitled to be being a bit "off color" from time to time. As for street size cups I have purchased them from MM, Jim Riser, Gary Animal and used cups of origins unknown so I'll be curious how these cups stack up(pun intended). I have to commend Andycomic for maintaining gracious professional integrity on here in the face of "being called out" so to speak. This little community here seems to have a "put your time in mentality" and respect is generally earned and not assumed here. The exception being if you are well known in magic circles and have attained a level of celebrity. Then you can even suck and be respected here as I have witnessed first hand. Thank you for adding a touch of class to the Café Andy, I respect your humility. If anything I have learned to be humble here, but it is so difficult when you're so *** good! |

I'll refrain from further comments until I receive the cups.
I seriously doubt that Andy has any inkling how many sets of cups I have to compare these to.

I said I would refrain from further comments until I got the cups. I can't.
I just got an e-mail from Andy concerning my order. He gave me some information I needed, and I gave him some he needs as well. This is looking much more positive all the time.

Good and all good. I like your Horsepuckey comment Bill, by the way in reply to 'A cup is just a cup'. I would say though that I never care much about what cups I use in my show. I have a few sets and seems to grab whatever is handy. The audience doesn't care about them so I don't either. They just want to be entertained....so yes to me a cup is just a cup. All I need is the right size for the final loads.

Everyone is entitled to his own opinion. However, I don't think Andy is really as, shall we say, non-critical of the props he works with as one might gather from his posts. For example, if you get a cup that is really badly balanced for juggling, you probably won't use it but once.
Once you are exposed to the finer things in life, you don't like going back to anything less. I know that some of the street performers have figured out that one investment in a really tough set of cups is better than five investments in sets of cups that aren't as durable. It's like the Sherwoods. The only people who knock them are the ones who are afraid to try them. They figure that once they try them they will be hooked. They are right! For standard cups, my "workers" are a set of copper Sherwoods that aren't listed on the museum site. I just like the way they feel.

I just received the package from Andy. I'm impressed. To clear up some of the questions that have arisen in this thread: They are copper and they are not Mega Cups from MM. I've written a bigger review that will be in the review forum.
