Hi Gang
Anyone here know a funny routine for the dealer item 'Fraidy Cat'? I recently purchased 'Fraidy Cat' in a sale but it came without the Instructions. Thanks in advance. John jbreeds@onetel.com |

Chris Capart has a routine but I don't think it would work for you John.
The routine that come with the trick is that the black rabbit is scare white when the sudience says "Boo". Eventually they will want you to "turn it around" and you do all the standard stuff which gose with the 'Turn it around" effects. John Kaplan does a routine where the rabbit follows Santa down the chimney and gets really dirty and sooty. You can figure out how to routine this based on this holiday concept. I do the standard and ask the kids NOT to say BOOOO, well you know they are... and it works well but I do only one "turn it around" routine in a show. Good Luck, Dennis

I think that the trick was originally marketed by Gene Anderson. I don't know if he has a routine for it in his book. (If you really want to know, I can dig up my copy.) There was also a 'board' made with the rabbit on one side and santa on the other. I used 'fraidy cat rabbit' for years, but in my 2007, the rabbit will have to depend on social security to live on, because he's about to retire.

I was originally produced by Gene Gordon, the rights were transferred to Rick Johnson and Phil Wilmarth who only gave the rights to make it to Abbott's. I asked because I was going to make them.
The only routine is written up in Gene Gordon's Magical legacy; I think it was also in Professional Magic for Children by David Ginn. The basic premise was to have the kids yell boo to change to the white rabbit and oob (backwards) to change it back. Chris Caphart is a master at this and gets more out of this than anyone I ever. BTW, the basic routine does still play as I did it last Saturday at a show. I like it over the Hippity Hop Rabbits because I can do it in my hands, without the need for a table. Richard

I've been performing the Fraidy cat rabbit for 10 years, using a few different routine ideas, and the best one with the best reactions for me is Chris Caparts version.

Unfortunately, if I was to do Chris Carparts routine, I might just offend my audience. What Chris gets away with, wouldn't work for me. I would be "Out of a Job!"

I hear you, I certainly do not perform it word for word. For obvious reasons, but his general premise is there. And I thank him for that.

The original Gene Gordon version plays well, and you can milk it as long as the kids will let you. I also like it much better than the Hippity Hop rabbits, and it packs smaller, also. I like the way that it plays better than most "sucker" type tricks - it seems gentler because you are telling them the truth - they just don't believe you, and you can make a big deal about how you always tell the truth, "don't you trust me" etc..
