Crazy Mans Handcuffs was the first trick I ever learned from a magician that mentored me many years ago.
It is well worth the time to learn, as I still use it today, many times in impromptu situations. It grabs the spectators attention and leaves them racking their brain trying to figure out how you did it! I have never had anyone figure it out yet. |

Yes, one of the best impromptu tricks out there! I've done this plenty of times, sometimes even a repeat performance, and it never fails to elicit gasps. In fact, I've never been caught doing it. I love it!

Crazy Man Handcuffs is a killer effect and on top of that, once you are done performing you can hand out your business card (whole punch the card at the bottom ahead of time) and then tie the rubber band to the card. They will never forget this effect and people will always ask why their is a rubber band on a business card!

I used to love this trick until somebody said on here ( I forget what thread it was)that they have had people figure the method out. Since I've read that I've been kinda hesitant to perform it for people.
Has anybody else had this problem? |

Nope. I've performed this countless of times and when done seamlessly, it looks like real magic. I have never been caught doing this. Practice and do it smoothly.

In fact, when I used to work at Disneyland, we had a lot of rubber bands available, and I did that trick a lot for guests and even fellow employees. Just about everyone I worked with was begging me to teach it to them. (Of course, I never did) |

I always do, and then they do exactly what I showed them. So far it's worked great. My misdirection at the "special time" is to look into their eyes and say "you can feel me pulling on it, right?" It's been great so far. |

You will occasionally have people catch you or you will slip! It's cool you learn from it and move on! Learning is fun and don't worry about screwing up, it comes with learning! Good Luck

Really? I never have that issue. My specs must be better behaved or something. Very possible. Seems that most of my audiences have been the kind who are more interested in "catching" me than anything. I'll specifically tell them how to hold the rubber band and they'll quite deliberately pull away from me. Grr... So I've become rather protective when I do illusions. I generally will only do illusions where I have complete control of the situation. I'd rather avoid the hassle of having to worry whether the audience is doing what they're supposed to. |
