Here are some things about the above posts:
I spoke to George Kovari about the Kovari cups in the Joro book. These cups are misidentified. Kovari never made any cups. So you can scratch that one off the list. I think I have tracked down where the Joro cups came from, but I'm not sure. There are two sets of cups that have been documented one way or the other as having belonged to Hofzinser. One set is in the possession of Pauline Read. These were given to Bob Read by Ottokar Fischer. They are made of a lightweight silver metal which Bob was unable to identify. Could be nickel silver, which was called "Alpaca." The other set was discovered in the Naschmarkt in Vienna by Leo Mackowski. They are made of copper and are a two cup set.

It's a pity that a couple of those pictures in the book are mis-labelled. I spoke to Joro's grandson about the Joro cups - they were obviously made in very small numbers. Unfortunately, further details were sketchy. If you get any further info Bill, I'd be interested to hear who made them etc. Bill - have you ever seen those Wolfgang-Kaps cups before?
I have six locks on my door all in a row. When I go out, I only lock every other one. I figure no matter how long somebody stands there picking the locks, they are always locking three. Elayne Boosler

I know it doesn't deal with the Cups directly; however, I'd like to get the various wand spins/ ball steals down better so they look less rigid and automata-like. Instead, I'd like to have a natural flowing-grace with them...
Oh yah, and I'd like to actually go a week without polishing my cups... It's a bad habit... Thanks Mad Jake!!! -Bryan |

Speaking of polishing, a quick, effective and inexpensive polish for copper cups is ketchup. Yes, simple ketchup. Just rub it in and then wash off.

Ketchup works on light staining. When you get to the really heavy stuff, it won't even touch it. You can eliminate the middleman so to speak, though. The thing that makes the ketchup (as well as tabasco sauce) work is the presence of a mild acid and salt. You can do the same thing with salt and vinegar.

For really tough jobs, Wright's copper polish is highly recommended. I just used it on a set of really old copper cups that I just took delivery of(for now, the oldest in my collection but that will be short-lived with my next incoming shipment of REALLY, REALLY old tin cups from a 19th c. French magic set). Anyway, the polish worked like a charm. I was inclined to leave the cups with their dark brown patina but couldn't resist the urge to see what was underneath. Beautiful colour....what a shine!

When you get the French cups, it probably would be best to leave them as is.
