Hallo ,
Terry Herbert has a brilliant routine on his dvd using the fantasio vanishing wand , I do not have a problem vanishing the wand...i can't get the wand to stay up to vanish!!. No matter how I try ( And I'm a patient man !!! ), I cannot get the wand narrow enough to fit in the end cap , so that it looks like a complete wand . Could some one who has maybe had the same problem , or found a solution...HELP ME !!!!.I really want to add this routine to my show , but if I cannot solve this ...then it will vanish for good !!! . Thankyou John . |

John,
It may be time for a reality check. DVDs have post production. You are trying to do a live show. My experience has been that Fantasio products are good and generally work. A performing magician needs 100% reliability. Even the best of card magicians will use a forcing deck on stage. It's your show. What is a comfortable level of risk for you? Most pros will admit that we do use "outs" when we have to. (I haven't carried an extra dove on stage for decades because I can't count! Sometimes I need him.) If it doesn't work for you, what is your obligation to make it work? That is a personal question and no answer is expected here. Most of us have used (but really unused) magic for sale. One size does not fit all. Take care of the entertainer. Good Luck! Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

I understand your problem John but its so hard to explain this - I could show you in a few seconds. Grip the rounded white end with your left finger and thumb and pull it upwards. Rotate it anti clockwise to tighten the coiled wand. Move your other hand down the coiled part, rotating it in the opposite direction to keep it really tight. Keep this up until you get to the other end and as long as you've kept it as tight as possible you should find it will slide easily into the tip.
There - clear as mud!! Told you it was hard to explain! I tried my best! Maybe someone with a better command of the English langage could come to the rescue. Or bring it down to Blackpool in February and I'll show you in person.

Bob ,
I am talking about setting the wand up well before performance , no matter how I try I can't get the diameter of the wand small enough to fit onto the end cap !! . Kimmo , I have tried the method you stated , this is what I do anyway..but really seem to struggle for some reason . kimmo , I would love to come to blackpool in february but am no where near the standard of entertainer that you are , so I will just keep plodding along and improving as I go . Excuse my ignorance but is there a magic convention at blackpool in february?. Anyway guys , thanks for the advice and taking the time to reply to my post . Magically yours John . |

John, when you look at the wand, nearly every part of the wand must be exposed. There is an overlap that runs the length of the wand, in a spiral. This overlap needs to be even all the way up, and fairly narrow. If the wand doesn't fit into the cap, the overlap is too wide. Make the overlap even narrower, and screw the wand up as tight as you can. Eventually it will fit. I'm not a big fan of the Fantasio Vanishing Wand, I find it awkward. A professional spring version is awesome, but only suitable for the stage in my opinion. Even so, I used to use a steel spring vanishing wand as my opener years ago, it turned into confetti, and got a gasp every time. The vanishing wand/cane is a beautiful prop, and I say work with it till you get it down, Terry's vanish is really funny!

That's a better explanation Doug! I must have shown hundreds of people how to do it when I was selling the things - I've never had to try and describe it in print before. You can take comfort in the fact that you are certainly not on your own John - Loads of people have trouble getting that darn cap on.
Re. Blackpool - The convention in February is the biggest in the world. You should definitely consider attending. For details see here: http://www.blackpoolmagic.com/

Kimmo,
Teaching by writing is certanly a challenge. Have you tried doing magic over the radio? That one will test you! Good Luck! Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

I suppose it's of no use saying that the it's the same as setting up the vanishing cane, just on a smaller scale.
I've never got on with those things. If you're too close to the audience they can see it isn't 'quite right' You're right Kimmo Blackpool is the one. As we say in the UK 'Blackpool is awfully good.' or as you may say in Barnumspeak 'It's awesome.' Quite.
