Is anyone aware of mentalism effects that can be done strolling and are comedic? Many mentalism routines are just too long and in strolling, people have the attention span of a gnat.

I agree with you, just be aware.

When I was you young cub scout we used a rolled up s*****g to do the effect. It was in one of the children's magic books (I think, A BOY'S BOOK OF MAGIC) at the time.

I know that schoolboys used to make two closed fists and bob one up and down whilst asking: "Which hand is the frog in?" (a small gag) BUT... if you actually place a small plastic frog in one of your hands prior to asking the question it becomes sensational (just trust me). You have choices of whether you place it in the hand that wiggles or the one that stays still. If they get it right you simply ask: "How did you know this?". If wrong you shrug and look at them as though they're idiots as you ask: "You really didn't get it?" They simply laugh like drains. you then go onto your act. This is some of my finest stuff but I'm giving it away here for free... enjoy. Bobser ps: Good to see you back Andrew, I've missed your scathing tongue and I hope that prison life has not taken away your sharp wit. I know it must have been hard in there. You're a good looking boy, don't think I haven't noticed!

Someone once asked what do I have to do to play (my musical instrument) in Carnegie Hall? The answer was "practice, practice practice. Being a mentalist means that our specialty is using our minds.May I suggest as an answer to your initial query (impromptu mentalism)the advice I was given many, many years ago when I was involved in magic. I was told to think of what I would like to see performed and then try to figure out how to do it. This should also apply to a mentalist. You would then have the satisfaction of performing your own creation, which would make you and the effect unique (hopefully). We too must practice but more importantly our success will be based on presentation, presentation, presentation.

I don't think anyone mentioned this in the thread, but Greg Arce's Scorch is one of my all time favorite effects. I keep a card in my wallet at all time to do this, but have been known to improvise with just a prediction on a piece of paper.
This kills every time. It is certainly not for the armchair mentalist, however. You need to be comfortable with performing in order to pull this off. Rick |

What is the effect of Scorched Rick?
Greg is a clever guy and quite attractive in an envelope holding kind of way... A.R.

Andrew,
My apologies for not describing the effect. Greg has another routine in one of his e-books (can't remember which off the top of my head) that is a stage version of the same effect. I believe the name of it is Floater, or something like that. If nothing else, it shows how creative Greg is with reworking his own effects. Rick |

I have a ton of wallets but I only use the Zingg now, It is amazing and simple and best of all I put it in the speccys hand, I also use it as my everyday wallet and it’s always ready, I also like note pads that I use for forcing or design dup. I have a stubby pencil in my pocket for writing on a business card then palm it and act like I take it out of my shirt pocket and say I have a note I wrote earlier today…

Docc Hilford's E'voque is a killer, completely impromptu piece ... Along with any guess which hand the object is in effect. I've always been a fan of Judah's Lightning Strikes Thrice (goes back a ways) ...
