I remember seeing Eugene Burger use some small candles in his video Eugene Goes Bizarre. Anyone know if they have a specific name or know where to obtain the smaller candles?
Thanks, Alton |

In my table hopping seance, Spirits On The Table, I use Betty Crocker Brand white birthday candles. Each one burns about 10 to 12 minutes. This also acts as a timer for the act. Also at "wally world" (Wal Mart) and most stores with camping departments, they have packs of 1/2" diameter candles that are about 6 or 7" long. As I recall Eugene used a birthday candle when he did some things at one of the Invos in Chicago.
For more on using candles in seance/ghost magic settings, you might want to keep checking http://www.jewelpro.com/boo Big Book of BOO and other collected spooky thinking of mine over the years is being re-published by LeapingLizards.com (Dean Montalbano). All the elements are in the final stage and we should have an actual publication date in about 2 to 3 weeks. TEB3 |

Ok,
I thought they seemed a bit bigger than standard birthday candles but can't exactly recall and the 6-7" long candles may be what I am looking for. Have to make a trip to "Wally World". Thanks |

I am not certain that these are the ones used by Eugene, but if you go to any gracery store with an ethnic foods section, and look near the Matzos, you will find the box of candles used in certain holidays. Also, if you have an Asian market, they will usually have some candles, at times in saffron or other colors.
All of these candles are a bit larger around than a pencil, and about 4 inches tall. Hope this helps (oh by the way you usually get a box of 25 or so for a buck or two!) K

Cut down any size candle to whatever length you require with a hot knife. As long as the diameter and color is right, you can have an unlimited supply of shorter candles from the Dollar Store. If you need a black candle, try melting black crayons and dipping a red candle in the black melted wax (makes a black candle that bleeds!).

I had forgotten about the small devotional candles next to the incense at most Indian Groceries. Per Kay, they would make an excellent choice. Plus you can by a 50 lb sack of lentils cheap and make soup for all your neighbors.
Biggest plus seriously is that they are not only a good size but they drip. The little birthday candles and nearly all of the regular tapers are now dripless. I think "drip be good" because that adds to the atmosphere for spooky. Think, you go to an Italian place for dinner, you EXPECT to see candles in Chianti bottles with lots of drips down the side. But, what the heck would I know about spooky/ghostly atmosphere? Cheers, TEB3 |

I believe these are the size sold in new age stores as coloured ritual and spell candles.

Try your local Japanese gift store. There are usually very small white candles for sale. Sometimes they are long and thin, but you can cut them down.

Not to change subject, but I still want those realistic flickering LED candles that you can blow off and blow on. I just gotta save the pennies I guess.
Outside of those, why not buy a candle kit - wax, wicks, etc .. and make your own ? Get creative ! (and bizarre)

When I asked Eugene about his candles a while back, he referred me to Waxman Candles, in Chicago. Google it, you'll find the info.
