Does anyone have any sources to suggest for a really nice top hat? I don't think my collapsible top hat will do the routine justice. I want a really high-end sturdy hat that is beautifully finished. I plan to do multiple steals to produce from the hat followed by the rabbit steal.

Hi Christopher,
Check out this link for a Tall Hat. It is made of a durable material and is oversized for accommodating a load or two. http://www.dube.com/pkindex.php?d=hat&f=1.html&n= All the best, Rob |

Chris,
Nice real top hats are certainly nice and Lucy and I have a few. Good ones also start about $200-$250. However, Rabbit claws will cut right though a good one like butter. And rabbits do kick. Most of us who really work with them will confess that we have lost a few costumes to cuts from those slicing rabbit feet. Look for a plastic bucket that will fit into your hat. (Mine is an orange trick or treat one.) Easter will have some avaiable in stores too. It will save your hat and some costumes. The audience never sees it anyway. They do like live rabbits. Call Wally at Lauer's Novelties and Costumes 586-775-0030, he's located in Roseville, Michigan; I used to work for him in his Costume/Magic shop. He is a great guy, and knows everything about costumes and makeup, and will probably be able to give you a range of qualities to choose from.

I was able to buy a really nice top hat at a local hat shop. It was almost $150 but that's Canadian and it's a really nice 100% wool felt. I had the load bag made up and now will try to develop the steal and work it into a routine.

I bought one at a local tuxedo store that is slightly taller than most and it has been very durable.
