I am looking for a version of the no tear newspaper restoration. The presentation I remember seeing was during a show performed by Andy Dallas. Andy started by holding a number of torn pieces in his hand and moving them one at a time from front to back. In the process he accidently drops one of the pieces on the floor, but he does not bother to pick it up. A few seconds later in a flash he restores the entire newspaper. He then thumbs through the pages and sure enough one is missing a piece the size of the one still on the floor. He the piece up and it seems to melt onto the page. I was in the front row and only 10 feet from the effect and this was outstanding. Could it possibly have looked as good as I just described?
Any thoughts or ideas? |

I haven't seen Andy Dallas' presentation, but I find Mark Mason's presentation hysterically funny, and it could be tailored to include the dropped piece.

Mr. Dallas is using the "No Tear" version of the Anderson "Torn and Flash Restoration" newspaper tear.
Doug Henning did the dropped piece bit on national TV back in the 1970's. The gag is older than Henning but I cannot find the reference. Almost any(but not all)versions of the Torn and Restored Newspaper can have the missing piece gag built in. One great version is to then do a second restoration where the missing/falling piece is put into the rewspaper and restored (and this bit has been done too if anyone remembers).

Kevin James had a version in a lecture where the one piece was added to the hole on the restored paper and it became restored, as well.

Eleazar Goodenough's Ultimate Newspaper Tear, from his book "Tear-Able Magic" on my site, although not starting from an already torn newspaper (even though it could) includes the dropped piece and the restoration of the piece to the full newspaper, which in his version, the completely restored paper can then be tossed out to the audience.

I had the good fortune of seeing Andy Dallas do this. He makes it very entertaining. The prop is almost incidental.

The Kevin James version was also published in Genii or Magic mag at one time.
