I first heard about this 17 year old magician, Chad Juros, when he was featured in an episode of Mindfreak.
This DVD contains 23 effects seperated into 4 categories: Card Tricks Money Magic Everyday Objects Rope Magic He covers a lot of material as well as a 17 year old (19 now)can, but most of what I saw seems to be copies or slight variations of effects from well known magic DVD's from Ammar, etc.. A few tricks such as his matrix seem forced and are painful to watch, most of his performances and explanations are adequate. My biggest concern is that he is exposing routines that are regurlarly used today by magicians, such as the Coin Matrix, Cut and Restored Rope, and several card and coin effects that were shown on Ammars ETMCM and other performers DVD's. The problem is that this DVD can be rented from Netflix or purchased through non-magic websites such as HotMovieSale for as little as $5.00. I have to give the kid a break though. He has had a rough life so far and he does show talent. |

If he would charge 40$ for the DVD and quotes all the sources, would that make a difference for you?

Thanks for asking.
I personally don't like the idea of allowing anyone who isn't serious enough about magic to spend a few bucks to learn magic but just rent a DVD from Netflix to learn the secrets to over 20 commonly used effects that aren't really his to give away. These are not little kids tricks we are talking about. These are 23 routines that are currently selling either in various DVD sets or single effect instant downloads. And YES, it would have made a difference to me if he credited the people who's effects it seems he copied from other performers DVD's. Since he was only 17 at the time, perhaps he didn't have the final say about how the DVD was to be marketed. I'm not blaming HIM, I'm just giving my review of a DVD. I THINK this is the right place, correct me if I'm wrong. If you encourage that type of thing, you are certainly entitled to your opinion, just as I am entitled to mine. |
