John Calvert showed me a straw trick one time when we were eating dinner. So, very impromptu- and very Calvert. Took two straws, twisted them so they were linked, and had me take one end and tug- nothing happened. Then he said 'the magic words' and we both tugged together and the two straws unlinked. Really a neat impromptu bit. He then did it in slow motion, etc- it was fun...
all the best, T.

David Pogue's "Magic for Dummies" (a surprisingly good book, despite the title) has one called 'The Astonishing Straw-Wrapper Restoration'. Sounds a lot like the effect Kipp is talking about up there.
Effect: You place a straw and its torn-off wrapper in a napkin, roll them up, and when you unroll the napkin, the wrapper is restored on the straw.

I second (or third) the unlinking straws.
I performed it for a small family last night and the first words out of the kids mouth were "are you a magician?", led me right into my first effect. great little opener or impromptu introduction. Sankey has it on his Amazing Magic Anyone can do. W//
I am a Sankey addict....please, help me!

You actually watch the paper get torn, exposing the straw inside, then the torn paper is visually restored. It is a newer method and does not need a napkin for cover, just bare hands. However, the one in Magic for Dummies will fool most dummies. Until we appear again, Kipp Sherry |

Hi there,
My favourite basic straw trick is to stick to straws parallel very close together on the floor. Place your thumb between them and secretly blow on it making the two straws roll apart. Its very simple, but most people cant work it out! Give it a try! Many thanks Magical Mark Watson (mark1991)

I'm not sure, maybe the name is "Rising Straw." Hold a straw vertically in a closed fist. Magically, the straws rises.

Mike Skinner also had a Torn and Restored Soda Straw Wrapper a la Leipzig. It's in the Classic Sampler Book.
