I am not sure what they are called...but my grandchldren (twins) got them for Christmas. It is a little folded up device that when open is about 5" in length and 6 inches in width. OK having said that it has a scren that can play games on, but the neat part (I think so anyway) is that it is a touch screen...by that I mean you can write on it freehand and with the push of a button it sends the image you created to another same such unit. The possibilities of this to me seem fantastic. Besides being a way to communicate information between yourself and a helper I think it could be set up as a pad that someone would write something on and not know they were sending the info to another unit (the senders unit would have to be doctored up so that they were not aware that they were using a sending device (example disguised as a writing pad). The units cost around $125 each...you obviously need two.
I am only guessing here but if I remember correctly the screen is about 2 inches by 3 inches, possibly larger. Having said all this does anyone know what they are called? If no one knows I will get the answer probably this evening and post it. It might be made by Nintendo. It seems that the range for sending is at least 100 feet as we foolded with it on Christmas from the garage to the house. Before any yells at me I know I should have looked into it more but having read about the new Telsa thingy just made me post this now.

I bought a set of something similar about 10 years ago. We used them at dinner parties for stooge work. Think the ones we used where casio thingy's.

Just so you know the pen that comes with a DS is a stylus, I'm not sure if this will have an impact on what you are trying to do or not.

Muffin,
A stylus would not have any effect as it would be covered with a sheet or sheets of paper making it look like a notebook, or whatever. No real use yet, just brain stroming here. Would be a good way to communicate with someone in the audience unknown to those participating in an effect.

Again just to clarify my point, the stylus (a digital pen, no ink, won't write on paper etc) is designed to work on a screen such as a DS or palm pc, it wouldn't write on paper as such. Im not sure if that is the intention but just wanted to make sure you don't go spending money on something that may not achieve the effect you are going for. I am sure it would be possible to create an effect through such a device and you could probably do something similar with palm pcs as well.

No, but a pen writing on a piece of paper will probably work as a stylus.
The thing I would caution you about is the risk of getting caught if someone nearby has one of these little jewels. That's basically how Randi caught Rev. Grant. It was with a scanner instead of a touchpad. Good idea, though.

There are a lot more Two Person Telepathy methods out there. They will be more diffucult, but more secure from being exposed.
