Thanks, don |

Depends on what you want to do. It is such a great utility. It can be used as the paper in the shadow box and lit to reveal the person inside.
Do a paper tear, switch the paper with flash paper and burn it in a flash. Then find and restore the orignal paper. Close up? Illusion? Parlor? Christian? There are marketed devices as well like finger flashers, Flash Paper delight.

I agree...I love In A Flash....
I have a presentation question though, for those who do the effect...how to you present the paper itself? I generally talk about the quarter being shy and working best in the dark...but it would be stronger, in my opinion, with some sort of explanation for the use of the paper itself (what it is, etc.) On the topic, are there many types of flash paper or just the paper that looks like tissue? Thanks! E P.S. Amusing moment...performed in a flash for my Mother-In-Laws boyfriend..when I pulled the paper out, he asked "is that for rolling joints?" I can just imagine some poor weedhead getting ahold of my flash paper and rolling one....wow....
Your EFFECT is only as good as its AFFECT.

Hey that can be a great trick. If he has already had a couple, then the flash and subsequent vanish of his moustache will have him impressed with your awesome magic skills. Probably get you a couple of gigs at the rehab centers.
TheaterFX puts out some books on flash paper use. But most effects for flashpaper can be found in individual's lecture notes. Look into the Floating Rose as well. It's a Stage Effect but under the right conditions can be a close-up or at the very least a parlor routine.

E There are two types, (or more) One is the tissue paper that comes in pads, and a heavier paper, somewhat like bond, that burns a bit slower. Aside: The bond was originally made for bookies and number-runners! I worked for a gambling equipment supplier, and maker for a few years. When the paper was shipped, the trimmings came with it, and I always had more than I could use. Slim/sanscan

Think about flash cotton and flash string too. There are tons of great things you can do with these as well. Imagine it and then do.. Just don't burn yourself. One guy (1989ish) burned himself up while transporting a bunch of flash paper in his car. He was smoking and ash fell on the top sheet as he reached into his back seat. Poof he was gone. Store it wet. Transport it in limited quantities.

(i.e. Max Maven's spirit message) It does require some prep work (cutting the paper to the proper size and accordian folding it to fit) but it's easier to explain the prop than just tissue paper. I do two close ups that I like. In the first you wrap a dime in a small square of flash paper. Ignite, and the dime has changed to a penny. Lift the penny, and on the remaining disk of paper found underneath is written, "IOU 9 cents." In the other effect, the "scorch" from a piece of flash paper ignited on a deck locates a previously selected card. The scorch mark is found on the back of the card.
