Valentine show
:) Ok; I make now plans for a tet-a-tete on-spec-only show for my wife for Valentine’s day. Please feel free to post feedforward, improvements, suggestions, comments or whatever. All tricks are from Wilson’s complete course by the way. Color changing decks (the one with two decks and hindu shuffle) Do as I do Magazine test Signed card in wallet Card through hankie Torn & restored card Cut & restored rope And the finale effect: The thankyou banner giant card trick with a 3-of-hearts-valentine-special (homemade) gimmick. This way, I thing I can manage the props in the transfer between effects. Please feel free to comment! Best, fless |

One thing you want to do is:
Use a variety of types of effects, production, vanish, escape, invulnerable ... One thing you typically do not want to do is: A series of the same type of effect in a row, even if they don't seem to be. Like a cut-n-restored rope followed by a torn and restored card, followed again by another invulnerable type trick. It seems like different effects but to the audience they are seeing you break and fix something over and over. So you can do several "restores" but be sure to have them at different parts of the routine, and be sure to use some of the other styles of magic.

How about an appearing rose and a bottle of champagne?

I think any of the following tricks would fit nicely as well:
Torch to rose Rose from a Card Appearing rose Spring flower boquet Since you are doing it for your wife, I recommned rose from a card. Eun-Gyul Lee (the maker of the trick) used 'Kiss from a Rose' as the background music and showed a nice routine. I've also seen a good trick which can be done with two chocolate boxes and a hanky. You produce one chocolate box with the misdirection of the hanky and split the box (produce the second box). Place the boxes together so they align and rotate it around showing their backs. If you attatch half of the heart shape on each box so when they are aligned it makes a full heart, it would be a good way to present your valentine chocolate (possibly with 'I LOVE YOU' written on the heart). Derren Brown used a heavily gimmicked "Do as I do" type routine, using two decks and two spectators. Each spectator would hold the deck under the table, reverse a card, and find that they have reversed the same card. Since the card is forced, I was thinking of doing the same effect to a couple, using polaroid photographs instead of cards, and finding that they have reversed their significant other.

Doing a very special one-on-one show for a very special person is very romantic. To aid you in your task, I will just point out that The Wizards' Journal #8 (on my site) has several Valentine's Day effects that you might find of interest: Every Century Silks X-Treme (and Regular!),My D'Liteful Valentine, Cut To The Heart , You Gotta Have Heart! and Boxful of Valentines and Balloons.
I hope the very special person appreciates your efforts.

Romantic for you or the women? Doesn't your significant other get enough magic on days that aren't valentines?

Thanks a lot for the tips. Unfortunately, I don't have a magic shop around, and ordering online might be a bit late, will see what I can do though. Good point there habu, I'll definitely re-arrange the tricks.

Get the Floating Rose trick by Kevin James. Order it... and practice it... and do it next year. You'll need that much time to master it.

Hope your wife enjoys your performance. I think the appearing rose would be a great idea.
Good luck!
