Ok so it's not the IBM you might be thinking of. (International Brotherhood of magicians)
However it is the other one. (International Business Machines- the computer company). I happen to work for IBM at the current time. They have an internal contest for employees in which you get to submit a 30 to 60 second video talking about IBM. The videos can be however you want them to be, funny, stupid, serious. Of course being a close up magician, mine is based on a little bit of card magic. Now again this video is intended for the laymen. I have not put in anything fancy smancy that would impress you magicians out there, however it's a small project I did and will submit it to the contest. (The prize is a playstation 3 (IBM has some computer chips in them) and bragging rights of course) To be honest I don't think I'd win as theres quite a few people entering and some of the videos entered are really well done and look like professional work by some computer nerds (like myself) from all around the world, but I thought I'd enter anyways. Enjoy and let me know what you think. http://youtube.com/watch?v=tWDbVZSaJkI Durgy |

I thought it was good.
The one suggestion I have for you would be to use the pre-made letter stickers to spell out the words, or other lettering as opposed to writing them on the cards. Does not look professional. I'm sure IBM would appreciate the extra effort. Yes the video could have been for flashy, but like you said, I'd enter it anyway. Good luck, DP

I think more "color changes" such as the latter part of the video would create more interest. Maybe reverse the order of the video. The first part should be, in my opinion, the "color changes". This would capture the attention of the viewers. I would continue on through out the whole video with different "color changes". The flourishes are what's important here. Again captures their attention.
That's my very, very unprofessional opinion. Good luck.

Try to do all the colour changes without having cuts in it. I'm sure you can figure it out.

Thanks for all the responses everyone.
Unfortunately the deadline for submission was quickly arriving so I just submitted it. But I agree with most of the comments here. If I had a little more time I would have tried to do one continuous shot of colour changes instead of cuts. I tried to do that earlier, but it got a little difficult with the camera angles. and edh I liked your advice as well of putting more colour changes in the begining to grasp attention faster. I would have taken the advice if I had a little more time but it's too late now. Anyways thanks everyone, thought I would share my small project with the members here. Durgy |

The last effect could be made better as well! Don't take that as an insult, what I mean is if you used something like the Ego change to get rid of a blank card and bring the I into play, and then use Troy Hoosers Zombie change, you could then supposedly print the I, B and M and get a triple change! The snap change could do with a little work, might just be me but as it's a video, you can try again and perhaps get a better change. The structure is fine, the editing is good and the ideas are great. Please take this as constructive work, and ideas I would use. Feel free to use them or ditch them whether you agree or disagree

A little flash on your snap change. Also try and entertain in your entrance demo for your IBM. Don't let the editing get you in, use your skills as a magician. Over all I thought it was o.k. Keep up the good work.
I get to gaff some cool stuff for some cool people

Overall I thought it was well done. If it's not too late, go back in and change the spelling of "innovate" in that one title screen. Bit of a typo in there.
