I was going to post this in the "Where to put it all..." section, but this may be the more proper place. Anyway, my question is directed to those who own a nice collection of silver dollar (Morgan) gaffs, whether it be Lassen or Schoolcraft. I am trying to find a nice coin holder, preferrably leather, to store and protect these special coins.
I recently acquired the JOL (Jerry O'Connell) Coin Tidy and it's a quality leather item, but it's not designed for dollar size coins, despite the description. Sure the coins will fit the holders, but you can't refold and close the thing with the coins inside. It is really more designed for Halves. What do any of you do with your investment? |

Hi GeorgeG, you might want to try here, http://www.georgesshoes.com/coinpurse.htm , I have 4 leather coin purses Item #25538 and I love them. I use them for all my gaffs including my silver Morgans which they hold with no problem. There are other ones on the page also, but I am partial to the ones I gave the Item# on.
They deliver fast, within 3 days and the leather is great.m They are not the cheapest in the world, but you get what you pay for.....

Fingers...
Thanks for the link. I really wanted something that would cradle each gaff individually. Jim... A reviewer made this comment on the Kueppers Keepers, "there are some drawbacks. The wallet is designed for holding half dollar-sized coins. Smaller coins will be very difficult to remove. Also, locking coins need to be stored separately, which really eats up space. Also the wallet is not padded." Apparently, I may have the same issue I did with the Coin Tidy...thanks for help. |

George, I have several dollar size gaffs from Todd. I store them in a very cheap holder that I found at Walmart. If you go the digital camera section look for the items they sell for holding the cards that you insert into a digital camera. It opens like a book and has 3-4 slots on each side. You can fit each piece coin(or shell or HH gaff, etc in each slot). They zip up nicely and are padded for protection. I use the Onosaka purses from Stevens when I am carrying the coins for performance and the Walmart ones for storage. The one from Walmart have a thing to loop your belt into as well if you choose. Let me know if this is clear enough. IF not I can explain more for you.

George,
HERE is a thread that shows a picture of what Andy recommended above. I found the same thing back in 2004, I assume they still stock them at Walmart. |

George I am sure you could contact Roy Keuppers and have him make you a custom
wallet.. Or you could contact Frank S. at the ambitious card... Let us know what you decide. Shawn

My wife bought these translucent semi-soft plastic trays with hinged lids on them from a local craft store. They were made for storing beads used to make necklaces, etc. The trays are sectioned off (maybe 5 sections) and sized to accomodate about 2 full rolls of half dollars in each section. Each section has its own hard plastic, clear cylinder, which is made from short cylinders that screw together to make one that fits the section in the tray. Some of the sections are small, and will hold 4-5 half dollars. Some are larger, and will hold 10-12 half dollars. I have my entire collection of flippers, shell sets, gaf sets all stored in this little tray. One section holds a coin box set and a couple of other coin utility devices. It's not something you would work out of, and it only works for halves, or gafs/coins that are half sized (English pennies, African dimes, Johnson Chinese coins, etc.). Since I work with half dollar sized coins only, it's absolutely perfect for me. It keeps all my coins organized and in one place..... when you're not working with them. It was also cheap, like under $10.

Hi all!
Good ideas abound here...here's what I did (for what it's worth): I took a piece of foam (the kind they make mattress pads out of) about two inches thick, three inches wide and a bit less than a foot long. Then I took a razor blade and made a slit every inch, large enough to hold my Half dollar-sized gaffs, then, slits large enough to hold my DOLLAR-sized coin gaffs. This goes into a briefcase that I use for my smaller effects and gimmicks. The coin gaffs stay vertical, and surrounded by foam. They're also in order, and visible, so they're easy to find. Hope that helps! Doug |

Sleightly,
I have a similar box I use at home, but for carrying around I like the looks of that Keuppers keeper, I'm leaning towards ordering one
Woke up.

DStachowiak,
I ordered a Kueppers Keeper last week- the leather one- and I should be receiving it this week. The biggest coins I have are Eisenhower dollars (gaffed and not), plus all the usual gaffs, Flippers, Shells, C/S/B's etc. I'll keep you posted. Jim. |

Anybody else here who has a Kueppers Keeper? I'm wondering if it works well with 4 dollar sized coins plus some halves. Thanks.
imagine the possibilities... endless...

I hate to give it up, and anyone who's attended my lectures will attest that I think these cases are super-sexy, affordable, durable and useful.
http://www.caselogic.com/digital_media_c......id=58599 I use these to keep my coin gaffs in. It zips up, has 6 separate compartments to hold your coins out, and also has a belt loop for storing either on your close up bag strap or on your hip. Best part is that you'll get a better price than what even I am able to offer them for.

I keep them in my wall safe. Seriously. Add it all up, I couldn't afford to replace my coins if we were robbed.
Mediocrity is greatly under rated!

I am working on a new style coin purse that will hold halfs on one side and dollar size on the other with a silk padded linning . Will drop a line when it is finished.

I am in the process of making a sort of case made from a book (appropriately titled "Heads or Tails") that has little half-dollar size holes cut out of the first page and the rest of the pages are all glued together. You open the book and there are the coins, ready to go, protected in felt. If I get around to finishing it, I will post photos.
