Looks great! Only one thing to say and this is just my opinion but I never understood why Magicians who wear a fairly traditional dress such as a tux/tails etc choose fairly modern dancy type music which in my opinion just seems weird.
What music do you actually use during your act? This may be just the case of you needing a more modern song for your commercial. |

I thought the magicians would notice that. The dove act is a classical act with more old world music. the piece in the commerical is not actually in the show anywhere. it is just something that seemed to be easy to edit video to.

Not to be cruel or hyper-critical but this is not a "great" commercial. Adequate, maybe, but it lacks several things -- one being audience reation, second being personality close-ups. The magic is fairly standard -- and even though on its own, for instance, the frames of Sands of the Desert would be good -- it adds nothing to the drama and flow of the commercial itself tp someone who does not know the routine's drama and sequence. It makes the better "slice and dice" stuff look like a pastiche' rather than a sequence.
Even a commercial needs the dramatic sensibilities of a full act -- but tighter and more direct. Get in there with the camera -- head and shoulders shots, close-ups. Dramatic poses, not just trick climaxes, Personality! Work it down and do not worry about sound synch -- but visual content. Treat this as a work in progress and you'll end up with a great piece. Right now, IMO it is not ready for prime time.

I think one thing that needs to be addressed is, is this a commercial that actually airs on television or is it a promo that plays at the venue.? If its for TV its way too long.
It would serve you better to show shorter clips as opposed to "sequences". IE just show the popping of the balloon and dove coming out in balloon to dove. Or just the switch in the trunk. You then have a solid 30 second spot that has no slow moments. Now if it was not designed for TV you can expand the length but still keep in mind what Gregg Chmara mentions in the above post.Pacing is so important in video its what keeps a viewer interested. Even Copperfields 30 second spot to promote his show is very fast paced and shows only a minute fraction of any given effect. If you ever get to Vegas take alook at the promos that they run in the hotel rooms for shows they are all fast edits cut to the music and give you just a taste of what to expect. As always just an opinion but my career is in television production. |

Hey Norrabmagic,
I like your commercial, your show looks much better than one I saw the other day in Orlando. If I have the time I'll come check yours out when I'm in Orlando again. -- http://www.PatrickThomas.de |

What night is it cheap there? (Less expensive ) I've heard that once a month they have a discount for entertainers. Is that so?

Hey guys thanks for your comments. It is my first promo short and is definitely a work in progress. I agree that it falls a little short in capturing the mood and style of the show. Most of the strength of my material is not in which tricks I do but in my presentation. every moment is choreographed and carefully scripted I have even taken the time to hire some of the best directors in the business. (bob fitch, broadway director tom sardinia etc). So in my next cut I will surely find a way to let my personality shine through. I also I wanted to mention that this is not meant to be a television commercial, but it is actually a loop that plays at my merchandise table after the show, mostly to remind people what they just saw. (also, before anyone starts to razz me about the music. yes I do have the rights.)
hey slim king, There is a hospitality night, but I am not sure which night that is. Just call reservations. http://www.Arabian-Nights.com |

I love the sand effect.... It is nicely staged.... I think you should focus on one or two effects and play them...
Great lighting of the stage....... cheers...

You look like a really good magician and I want to see your show. If only I had known about it last week when the show I tour with was performing in Orlando at Bob Carr. I would have come to check it out for sure. Next time!
The commercial needs more, and better camera angles. It is really lacking in dynamics. BUT it's your first one, so no worries!! Something to consider on the next draft. --Jack |

Glad you are working with Bob Fitch -- he is one of the best. I would suggest you submit this promo work to him for comment.
