These are the two biggest publishers when it comes to books. Which one do you prefer more and why?

I'm a fan of Kaufman's magic books because they are usually very well produced and classy looking. I don't have much experience with Hermetic Press except with Card College Light, which was also very well produced (just didn't like the material of the dust jacket). In terms of material, they are both equally good.

The material from these two publishers are equally good - can't argue about that. But in terms of layout, style etc, which do you like more? My vote goes to Kaufman & Greenberg.

Kaufman & Greenburg put out some excellent books but Greenburg told Kaufman he hated his guts and they weren't doing their book thing anymore so Kaufman's books stink now because they don't have many that are coming out except for the Larry Jenning's stuff.
Hermetic Press was hit or miss. They put out some great stuff like the Card College books and the tommy Wonder books and they also put out Tricks of the Imagination which totally sucks. |

I beg to differ, Tricks of the Imagination is one of my favorite works. But then again, I love Bob's writing and enjoy creative presentation.

I think both of them are excellent. No comment so far the books published.

Hermetic Press for me. The Stewart James books are amazing. I have a feeling these will be the books to have when they're no longer in print and so readily available.
I have them sitting on my desk -- nearly 25-30 pounds of book (maybe more?). Huge. And enjoyable as hell to browse. |

Tricks of the Imagination, sucks? Silly polar bear.
Personally, I think Miracle Factory does the best in terms of production and design, but Hermetic is a close second. Kaufman's books are good, but when it comes to design, they fall into 3rd place in my opinion. |

Both L & L and Hermetic mainly produce books that are full of quality material and as was mentioned The James' books (many more as well from both) are now OOP and are difficult to obtain; I'm very luck to have my copies. When buying books (any books for that matter) it's the person who wrote it and the material contained within that are the deciding factors for me; the publisher is of little concern.

Both of these publishers have put out excellent books. For me it depends on who's written or Illustrated the book. I love Ton's Illustrations, but don't care for Kelly Lyles.

Hermetic Press has impressed me with the books they have put out, and if we are talking classy, then they have it all the way. (Not comparing them to anyone... just pointing out the work they do.) Tangled Web, The Paper Engine, Close-Up and Personal, Enchantments, and Pasteboard Presentations. Good stuff.
I just like the way Tangled Web and the Paper Engine look!! RevJohn |

I love them both and think that they are equally good. If I was forced to pick just one set (of everthing each has published), at the last second, I'd probably pick Hermetic Press. But, on any given day, I might just as easily get the whim to pick the Kaufman and Greenberg books. They are both just excellent excellent companies. I wish all magic (books, videos and tricks) was of this caliber and quality.

Yes, it is nice that we have TWO great publishers of magic. That the stuff they put out are both of top quality.

They're both invaluable sources of good material.
