Jeff,
I do agree with you in some aspects with the BW, you may get away cleaner with the Raven, However, You can do so much more with the BW. I am coming up with sevreal new ideas daily, I think that is one of the benifits of the BW. With the raven you can do what? a few effects at most. The BW is so much more capable of doing more effects. As for the maitence of the gimmick, I'm not sure if you got a busted one or not mine has been working 100% fine it may be your gimmick. |

Im a latecomer to this thread but I just recieved my Black Widow and I don't get most of the complaints about the device... Unless you are planning to work without sleeves, I don't understand the negatives... About an hour out of the box I had it on, and working reletivley well (I wont deny It requires practice, and I am nowhere near good at it) and I can see the value in the item, at least for my uses.
AND, FWIW, I don't know Darryl, I paid for my unit, and Im not giving a good review just to give a good review... I actually appreciate what this unit is capable of.

I have the unit, it works really well but like Cryo said it requires practice to make it look good. So many things you can do with this, so many old effects you can modify with this system that's why I love it!

I have had a lot of time to play with this, and I have to say that I love it. There is a definite learning curve with it, but there are lots of possibilities. With almost no movement you have a powerful magnet delivered to the palm of your hand, and with a touch more movement you have a small mouth to grab objects away. Very nicely made, thank you Brad Burt (www.magicshop.com), I love using this!

I'm using the Black Widow Saturday night. It's a beautiful device!

I agree with Chris. A beautiful device. This weekend, I left some folks with an impromptu (anyone have a quarter?)bent quarter and stunning memories. State quarters make a good convincer.

It's just so often that this happens- a device comes out and it seems like 100% of people talk about (for months and months) how great it is. They glow about how many ways they use it. They bask in the glow of other people's attention as they opine about how it will revolutionize the way they do (and you will do) magic.
But wait a year (or even six months) and it seems that in most (not all- see Extreme B) of the people who glowed about the "invaluable" device don't even use it anymore. I guess that it's human nature. Advertisers find that if you simply put the words "new and improved" on a product, it will boost the sales. As magicians, we are always on the search for new and better magic. I found this thread today while looking at my Raven and thinking about the original hype that surrounded that product. I bet very few of us (not none of us, but very few of us) who bought it actually use it. |

Does the black widow have a lock or a simple and natural means of turning it 'off' when it is not desired. For instace, open with a black widow effect, and then go into something else, with a free range of movement?
Thank you. |

There's a single anchor that can be "released" for free movement.

This thread has died down but I'd be interested in knowing if there are strollers out there who would call BW a "worker."

This thread picqued my interest.
Firstly, it's weird that so many people compare things to the Raven. I guess that's a good indication to the efficacy of the Raven, of which I own two. It is a good device. Subterfuge, when it was out, was also compared, even hailed as a superior replacement (which, despite being a moderator on the Subterfuge forum, I personally disagreed with, as there was room for both, I felt). I don't know much about the BW other than that it's a holdout, but that is not what the Raven is. A holdout can do much more. The Raven is for vanishing, not much else, unless you use sh** coins to change a penny to a dime. The Raven is effective, it's simple, it's a brilliant concept, but it is limited as well. I've seen the video for the BW, I gotta say, it sure looks impressive, about as close to real magic as I can imagine. It does vanishes, productions, transpositions, transconfigurations and more. I dunno, to each their own. If I had the money, I'd probably try a BW, at least.
Just hanging out with the rest of my fellow dregs.

I have had, and then sold most holdouts including the perfect holdout.
And I have used the Raven as well. It is a different tool for a different set of tasks. Of all the holdouts, I have owned or used, the Black Widow, once adjusted, fit me best. I even bought a second one, thinking that if one is good, two would be better. But one seems to be enough, and investing the time and effort to develop a meaningful routine with two, just isn't necessary. But now I have a spare. The Doctor

There is no God or one device to end all. Every sleight and device has its place and we all have our preferences and performing styles. In one of my favorite routines I use a Trabucco holdout, Mb's crimp change and The Asp. In my mind the more options out there the better. Every thing has it's place.(excluding pure junk)
Its about working together.

I just bought this in an auction. I don't have access to a dvd player right now. Is there an online version of the instructions (or did someone rip the dvd for personal use) and is there a customer forum for it please?
