I'm wondering what some folks might use for this prop. I'm not really familiar with the load size and would appreciate any insight folks have...thanks!
Smartini ps. my kids are voting for a rabbit! |

A rabbit is the best option without a doubt. Or at least some form of livestock.

I thought the Ka-Blammo box was designed for something larger than a rabbit. I could be wrong.

How about 2 or 3 different pets the same time. That would be a plus.

Funny you should ask this question, as I FINALLY came up with the solution, yesterday! Whilst KaBlammo is an awesome prop, I don't find it "magical " enough. I have a big routine involving an adult and a child. The adult powers the KABlammo with mind control. I have a confetti launcher, funken rings, water squirter, and other gimkicks attached to the unit for extra laughs, as well as a pair of comedy handlebars for the adult to "drive" the KaBlammo.
My production is a pirate scene, with a pirate marionette sitting on a chest, surrounded by treasure. This is highly visual, but not yet magical enough for me. SO, I've decided to use Gaetan Bloom's "Intercessor" as follows....at the start of the routine, the adult will choose a card and tear off one corner which he will keep around his neck on a crocodile clip. The rest of the card is vanished or destroyed. At the end of the routine, when the pirate scene appears, I will operate the marionette, who will walk over to the adult, and raise his hand. The hand contains a rolled up card - of course, the very same card which the spec has the missing corner for! All of this adds lots more interaction, magic, visual effects, and fun, to the basic routine. Now I just can't wait to try it out! |

I really can't think of any production item that would have any better impact on an audience of children than a live rabbit. A very big rabbit if you are using a Kablammo!
Or how about this: Force a colour on the birthday child - a simple magician's force of a coloured handkerchief would suffice. Then have the child pick an animal. (force a card on the child with DOG (for example) written on it. Place the silk and the animal card into the kablammo. Then get the child to decide on a name for his/her new pet - This is a free choice. Go through the Kablammo routine and at the end a Giant, stuffed toy dog appears which is the same colour as the chosen silk. As a final kicker you ask the child or a parent to read out the name on the dog's collar tag and it is the name that the child freely chose. The collar is then removed and the toy dog given to the birthday child to keep. (I would charge the parents extra to cover the price of the toy) So you have produced the child's imaginary pet. - You could even go through the business of connecting him/her to the machine to 'download the brainwaves'. You also get to make an add on sale with the Toy Dog and every child at the party will want you to come and do the same trick at theirs. Of course you could produce a different toy at every party so it's not the same colour or animal each time. You would also need to make up John Archer's 'Collard' effect to get the chosen name onto the collar. (Or buy it ready-made) http://www.alakazam.co.uk/acatalog/Hot_List_1.html#a328

Here's another idea I had using the Intercessor:
An adult or older child picks a card, the corner is torn off (can be signed first), and put in a clip around his neck for safe keeping. The remaining portion of the card is vanished (how about you s****h in the Vanishing Deck gimmick when getting the clip for the corner to be kept in. Now you're set up to put the torn card back in the box and vanish it along with the rest of the deck). The Ka-Blammo is introduced and you can connect it up to the spectator, lots of scope for comedy by-play. I use "Buckethead" by Brad Emmanuel to add extra comedy. When the Ka-Blammo is finally operated, a large balloon animal appears (a big balloon bear, rabbit, or Bart Simpson, etc.) The balloon animal holds a heart balloon which contains a rolled up card. Of course, the card is the spectator's card, the corner fits perfectly. For reasons of logic, it would make sense to have the rest of the deck in the production also. I love Kimmo's suggestion above too. "Collard" sounds really good - I don't know it. |

I'm bringing this thread back as I just picked one of these up ( a used one in mint shape). One plan I have is to use it for corporate clients. I plan to make a change from an old product of the clients (Blow it up) to the New product. Thoughts? What is everyone doing with theirs as it's been over a year since the last post?
Thanks Shawn |

Shawn,
Speaking as a senior marketing manager for a Fortune 50 company, I love it. What a fun and dramatic way to introduce a new product advancement. Dan. |

I used it in my Library shows all last year to produce all the books I used during the show. Librarian's loved seeing books magically appear at the beginning of the show.
Lately, I've been producing a large remote control car. I did this at a couple Blue and Gold dinners and a recent birthday (for a boy that loves larger illusions) I performed it sort of like the Appearing Bowling ball routine-- draw a picture, place it into box and BOOM a car appears. Great reaction from everyone. It gives the feel of a large illusion, but I can carry it in and set it up alone.
