Bill:
How do the Johnny Paul cups that you just acquired compare with the ones Pete Biro made? |

They are vastly different. Pete's cups are much better. They are much more like the cups that Johnny had made for himself. Out of all of those sets that Johnny commissioned only a couple of sets survived a warehouse fire.
What's the good of having toys like this if other people don't get to see them? Every time I look at that chop cup Paul Daniels used, I think about that bit from his routine where he "throws the ball" through his jacket, into the side of the cup, and makes it penetrate.

Love the new toys, Bill!
I have six locks on my door all in a row. When I go out, I only lock every other one. I figure no matter how long somebody stands there picking the locks, they are always locking three. Elayne Boosler

There is a youtube clip of Paul doing the chop cup with cutaways to John Fisher and other people explaining Paul's intimate thoughts about the routine.

Hey Bill
I was checking out your new photos and found a set of cups that caught my eye. They were the House of Magic (prototype wooden cup set.) Do you know if they plan on releasing these to the public. I would really like a set. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jeremy |

They don't plan to make any more of them. Mark Burger made these and said they were just too big a pain in the tuchis to make!

It's always good to have an excuse for rooting round the museum's latest acquisitions. I just noticed the Van Dokkum aluminium cups: very nice.
Bill, are these a custom set or a prototype? I'd be interested to know how much they weigh.

I think they are production cups. The aluminum ones weigh 3.3 oz. each. The brass ones weigh 9.0 oz. each. These are just a teeny bit bigger than the stainless steel standard cups I already have in the collection -- they will accept a tennis ball,

If my calculations are correct, I just added about 35 new photos to the museum site. Right now, they are only in the database, but I will put them onto the regular pages later tonight.
To see the new items, do a date search using 5/01/2011 as the search criterion.

They really are. Win made the outside a little longer than the inside where he installed the bottom of the cup, then folded it over, creating a "safety" seam.

Win really seems to understand how these things should have been made.
